On September 1, 2025 we celebrate Labor Day. Please recall that the forty-hour work week and weekends off were due to the hard work of unions. Labor Day is due to the hard work of unions.
In addition, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2025/weekly-earnings-of-nonunion-workers-were-85-percent-of-union-members-earnings-in-2024.htm (last visited 08/31/2025) the average weekly wage for a union worker was $1,337.00 while the average weekly wage for a non-union worker was $1,138.00. That is a difference of $199.00 per week which translates to $10,348.00 per year.
Finally, a reminder that in the United States, non-union workers have NO rights. None. Seniority exists in union shops only. In a non-union shop the boss can fire a man simply because he doesn’t like the tie the man is wearing (there is actual case law on this!)
Bottom line—unions work for working people. Tax the rich.
Among full-time wage and salary workers, nonunion workers had usual median weekly earnings that were 85 percent of earnings for workers who were union members in 2024 ($1,138 compared with $1,337).
