🏡 A Yard Sign Should Always Be an Invitation—Never an Imposition

In West Sacramento, a campaign must receive at least verbal permission from the property owner or renter before placing a campaign sign at a home or on private property.

That means signs should never simply “appear” in someone’s yard. Every campaign should ask first, respect the answer, and honor the people who live there.
A yard sign may be small—but respecting our neighbors is a very big deal. 💚

A Saturday Thought: Wise Decisions Start With Wise Counsel.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned throughout my career is this:

Good decisions rarely come from listening to only one voice.

Strong leaders ask questions.

They seek out people with knowledge and experience. They listen to different perspectives. They examine the facts. And, when representing a community, they make sure the people affected by a decision have been heard.

That matters in local government.

When decisions involve millions of taxpayer dollars, long-term contracts, utility rates, development, infrastructure, public safety, or the future of our neighborhoods, residents should never be left wondering:

Were all the right questions asked?

Were alternatives seriously considered?

Did anyone challenge the assumptions?

Were residents given the full picture before the decision was made?

Leadership isn't simply voting yes or no when something reaches the Council agenda.

Leadership is doing the work before the vote.

I don't believe any elected official should assume they have all the answers. I believe in surrounding yourself with knowledgeable people, seeking different viewpoints, asking difficult questions, and—above all—listening to the people you were elected to represent.

Sometimes the wisest person in the room is the one willing to say:
“Before we decide, what haven't we considered?”

West Sacramento deserves thoughtful, informed and independent decision-making.

Listen. Learn. Question. Seek counsel. Then decide.

That is how I will approach decisions as your District 4 Councilmember.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University before continuing my education later in my career at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento, where I earned my Juris Doctor. I am also a CORE Registered Paralegal and California Certified Legal Secretary.

For more than 30 years, I have built a career in the legal profession, working in major law firms, corporate legal departments, and the United States Department of Justice. Today, I serve as Practice Group Director in Sacramento, where I lead 3 teams, manage complex legal operations, develop practical solutions, and help ensure accountability and results. WHAT IS A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER ACTUALLY ELECTED TO DO?

A City Council Member isn't elected just to attend meetings, cut ribbons, or vote “yes” on what is put in front of them.

In West Sacramento’s Council form of government, the Council provides the policy direction and oversight that guides our city.

That means our elected representatives should be asking tough questions, demanding complete information, scrutinizing how taxpayer and ratepayer dollars are spent, and making sure decisions actually benefit the residents they represent.

A Council Member should:

• Represent the residents of their district — not simply City Hall.

• Provide fiscal oversight — understand where our money is going and question costs before approving them.

• Demand transparency — residents should know the true cost and long-term consequences of major decisions before they are made.

• Scrutinize contracts — especially agreements that could obligate residents for many years.

• Protect essential services and infrastructure — including public safety, roads, water, sewer, storm drainage and other basic city needs.

• Hold government accountable — asking the questions residents would ask if they were sitting "behind the bench".

• Listen and respond to residents — not just during election season, but throughout the entire four-year term.

West Sacramento residents are already contributing through property taxes, utility bills and a 9.25% sales tax that includes five separate voter-approved local sales-tax measures. The City itself says those revenues help fund infrastructure, public safety, flood protection and other city operations and projects — and that the Council receives annual reports regarding the use of those funds.

So when costs increase, major contracts come forward, additional money is requested, or residents learn important financial information late in the process, our Council Members should be asking questions before residents have to.

That's oversight.

That's accountability.

That's representation.

And when those responsibilities aren't being fulfilled, residents have every right to ask:

Who is watching out for us?

I believe District 4 deserves a representative who will read the reports, question the numbers, challenge assumptions, listen to residents and never forget who they work for.

City Hall should be accountable to the people — not the other way around.
