Thank the lord for body cams!! For over 45 years I and fellow criminal defense attorneys have tried, often in vain, to convince skeptical judges and juries of crazy scenarios involving cops told to us by some clients. Without the body cam, I doubt many of us would succeed with this one. Cop makes traffic stop. He arrests the driver, presumably frisks them for weapons, handcuffs them and places them, cuffed. into the rear seat of his patrol SUV.

An acorn falls from the overhanging tree and hits the cop's car making the sound an acorn would make hitting a car resulting in what the video shows to be the reactions of a lunatic who never should have been allowed to wear a badge and certainly not to possess a firearm. He has resigned and fortunately he was also a bad shot and the driver was not injured.

The officer was approaching the vehicle when he heard a sound he believed to be a shot. After investigation, the sound was determined to have been made by an acorn hitting the roof of the car.

As of March 1, 2023, I decided to close my physical office at 4095 Southern Blvd. I am NOT RETIRED. In fact, I have done this to facilitate an efficient way to continue my handling of CRIMINAL DEFENSE matters in Palm Beach, Broward, and Martin Counties as well as civil POLICE MISCONDUCT cases in Palm Beach County.

NRA slapped down by Federal Court of Appeals.

A federal appeals court smacked down the NRA's challenge of a Florida law banning young people under the age of 21 from purchasing or owning fi****ms.

A hidden danger in all the tech brought into the courtroom is the increased cost of doing so. DNA, computer data, cell phone data, stored data in our vehicles threaten to vastly increase the expense of participating fully in litigation, criminal and civil. Increasingly, litigation will pit go kart equipped lawyers against those driving formula 1 racers.

The case was built on a trove of digital data. Could the jury have given it due consideration in just three hours?

A corporal with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office received an 8 hour suspension for getting into a dispute and pushing a valet in Delray Beach.

Where's Steve? Well, he is no longer at the Rotortech Building. During the pandemic it became apparent to me that I could function just as well without a permanent office. It became clear that, after 38 years as a solo criminal defense lawyer, I no longer require a base camp. Working from home suits my style and ZOOM facilitates communication. I have alternative means to meet with clients personally as needed and feel recharged by these changes.

What happens when an appeals court finds that officers have lied or misrepresented facts? Most recently see the decision of the 2nd District Court of Appeal in O.W. v. State. Now that we have video evidence, the appeals court can see what the trial court should have seen. The appeals court made it clear the officers had lied about their contact with the juvenile O.W. which resulted in the illegal discovery of a firearm. The trial judge had seen the same video and apparently ignored it.

This happens frequently and what happens to the cops. Nothing. Court are not hesitant to refer lawyers to the Bar for misconduct. Why not police who, by their lies, create harm to individuals and tremendous expense to the system.
