We congratulate litigation attorney Michael Habib on his new roles within the Federal Bar Association, serving at both the national and local levels. Michael has been named an Articles Editor for The Federal Lawyer, the FBA’s national magazine; appointed to the FBA’s Civics, Service and Outreach Committee; and elected Secretary of the Palm Beach County Chapter.

Michael brings valuable insight to these positions, having clerked within the Florida Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Through these roles, he will contribute to initiatives that promote civics education, support the Chapter’s operations, and strengthen engagement across the federal bar.

Jones Foster litigation attorneys Steve Rothman, Travis Foels, and Danielle Jakeman, members of the firm’s Complex Trial Team, secured a significant victory for their client, William Douberley, before Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeal.

In an October 7, 2026 opinion, the appellate court reversed rulings allowing former Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter and his wife to seek punitive damages against Douberley and Federal Insurance Company for an alleged conspiracy to collect DNA from the Perlmutters. The court found that the Perlmutters’ counterclaim did not sufficiently allege, and Douberley did not commit, acts with the specific intent to harm the Perlmutters.

In her role as Civics Liaison for the Federal Bar Association Palm Beach County Chapter, Jones Foster litigation attorney Natalie Nash recently coordinated a Civil Discourse and Difficult Decisions (CD3) program for The King's Academy to provide students a firsthand opportunity to put their pre-law studies into practice.

Attorney volunteers Danielle Jakeman, Dallas Dorosy, and Ryan Lantz from Jones Foster’s Complex Litigation team joined Natalie at the West Palm Beach federal courthouse to facilitate an interactive experience for students as they prepared for and argued a fictional First Amendment case before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Estate planning helps families prepare for the future, but it can also create opportunities to support the causes and communities that matter to them.

As chair of Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults Palm Beach’s Professional Endowment Committee, private wealth and tax shareholder David Bowers hosted the annual Estate Planners Reception, bringing together professionals from more than 40 local firms and financial institutions to explore the role planned giving can play in supporting RCCA’s continued work to provide specialized therapy services to children and adults in our community.

Also representing Jones Foster at the event were private wealth and tax attorneys Bill Smith, Evan Sanchez, and Richard Vaughan.

Congratulations to land use and litigation attorney Lainey Francisco on her installation as president of the Federal Bar Association Palm Beach County Chapter for the 2026–2027 term! ✨

We were proud to host the chapter’s Annual Induction of Officers at our West Palm Beach office, where U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida administered the oath to Lainey and the incoming officers. We also congratulate litigation attorney Michael Habib, who was sworn in as Secretary.

As president, Lainey will lead the chapter’s programming and initiatives, with a focus on expanding opportunities for in-person interaction among federal practitioners and judges throughout the Southern District of Florida.

Natalie joins the firm following a judicial clerkship with the Honorable William Matthewman (Ret.), former Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Florida. Her experience with the federal judicial process brings a valuable perspective as she represents individuals and businesses in complex commercial disputes.

Prior to earning her J.D. from UF Levin College of Law, Natalie was selected to participate in the Jones Foster summer associate program, working with attorneys across the firm on client matters, participating in a wide range of firm and local bar activities, and gaining firsthand insight into what it means to be a Jones Foster attorney.
