We are proud to share that Milana Amiel and Stephen Cyr have been promoted to Partner!
Milana was born in the UK where she earned her Bachelor of Law degree in London before graduating cm laude from Florida Coastal School of Law, where she served as an Editor on the Florida Coastal Law Review and earned the Governor’s Merit Scholarship. For anyone that’s spent 5 minutes with Milana, it is the least surprising thing ever that she completed both her undergraduate studies and law school, in only four years, and passed The Florida Bar by the age of twenty-two. Her brilliance is only surpassed by her endless reservoirs of kindness and passion for her family and her colleagues. To know Milana is to know greatness – and that is said without any hint of hyperbole.
Milana has been with Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad for nearly a decade—her entire legal career—a testament to her loyalty and deep roots within our organization. Today, her practice centers on insurance subrogation, product liability claims, complex business disputes, and she remains an active member of the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar.
Stephen Cyr was literally the first attorney ever hired by Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad outside of Florida, marking a pioneering move that helped open the door for our firm’s expansion into New England. Since joining us in 2019, he has played an instrumental role in both the cultural and client growth of the firm’s subrogation practice group throughout New England. Stephen speaks regularly at conferences and is frequently the first to volunteer for a firm activity. Not one to shy away from a challenge, when a client said they had lots of work in Rhode Island and no one to give it to, Stephen volunteered as tribute to take the Rhode Island Bar Exam with Managing Partner Michael B. Stevens. Both passed the exam, but Michael ended up owing Stephen an adult beverage for getting the higher score.
A Rhode Island native presently living in Massachusetts, Stephen graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Literature and later earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. While the list of his bar admissions continues to grow, Stephen is currently admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
For anyone who has had the pleasure of working with Stephen, his rise to partnership at the firm was clearly inevitable. He is a gentle and compassionate warrior who never leaves a colleague to face hardship on their own. A cunning linguist and wordsmith backed by legal acumen, he has earned endless successes litigating his cases. His clients love him. His colleagues love him. Just like American Express said in a TV ad for Kristin Davis – “Life is good when you are Stephen Cyr.”
Please join us in celebrating our newest Partners, whose intelligence, integrity, warmth, and compassion embody the heart of Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad.
