When a family drops their child off at daycare, they're placing their trust in that facility completely.

For the families affected by what happened at BrightPath Avon, that trust was shattered.

RisCassi & Davis Attorney Chris Houlihan has filed a lawsuit on behalf of one of the families alleging their child was sexually abused by a former BrightPath employee. The lawsuit alleges that the abuse went on for nearly two years while warning signs were ignored.

This case is about more than one family. It's about accountability, transparency, and making sure this never happens to another child.

The steps you take in the first 24 hours following a car accident in Connecticut can have a significant impact on your ability to protect your rights and your claim.

A few important steps to keep in mind:

• Seek medical attention, even if injuries seem minor
• Document the scene thoroughly — photos, witness information, and details matter
• Avoid providing a recorded statement to any insurance company before speaking with an attorney
• Consult with an attorney before accepting any offer or signing anything

Insurance companies move quickly to protect their interests. Having experienced legal counsel in your corner from the start ensures you're not navigating that process alone.

Spring construction season is in full swing across Connecticut. If you work on a construction site or pass through work zones, stay alert.

Construction accidents we handle: falls from heights, equipment malfunctions, struck-by incidents, trench collapses.

Workers have rights under Connecticut law. And if you're injured in a work zone as a driver or pedestrian, there may be liability beyond workers' comp.

Construction sites are dangerous. When negligence causes serious injury, there's accountability.

Warmer weather means more cyclists on Connecticut roads. Whether you're commuting in Hartford or riding trails in Avon, here's what you need to know:

Cyclists have the same road rights as vehicles. That means drivers must give at least 3 feet of clearance when passing (Connecticut law).

Common bicycle accidents we see: dooring (car door opened into cyclist's path), right-hook turns, and failure to yield.

If you're hit while cycling, document everything. Photos of the scene, driver info, witness contacts. And don't give insurance statements before getting guidance.

Ride safe, Connecticut.

Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest travel times in Connecticut. All of the highways will be packed.

Quick safety reminders:

• Give yourself extra time, don't rush
• Watch for motorcycles and cyclists
• If you're in an accident, move to safety if possible and call 911
• Take photos before vehicles are moved

Don't turn a fun celebration into an awful memory.

A client asked me yesterday: 'What does trial ready actually mean?'

It means we're experienced and have a proven track record.

We have expert witnesses lined up, medical records analyzed, accident reconstruction complete, depositions done, and every detail documented.

Most cases settle because insurance companies know we'll go to court if we need to. And when we do, we're prepared. That's the difference 70 years makes.

After an accident, insurance adjusters will contact you quickly. While they may seem helpful, remember they represent the insurance company's interests, not yours.

Statements to avoid:

• "I'm fine" or "I feel okay." Many serious injuries have delayed symptoms. Premature statements about your condition can undermine your claim even if you develop complications later.

• "I'm sorry" or any admission of fault. Even casual apologies can be interpreted as liability admissions.

• Detailed accident descriptions or speculation about causation. Provide only basic facts: date, time, location, and vehicles involved.

• Agreement to recorded statements without legal representation. Adjusters are trained to elicit responses that devalue claims.

• Acceptance of early settlement offers. Initial offers typically fall far below actual case value, especially before the full extent of injuries is known.

What you should communicate:

• "I need to speak with an attorney before discussing details."
• "Please send all communication in writing."
• "I'm still receiving medical treatment and cannot assess the full extent of my injuries."

For 70 years, RisCassi & Davis has protected Connecticut injury victims from insurance tactics designed to minimize compensation.

Summer's almost here, and for teen drivers in Connecticut, that means more freedom on the road: beach trips, late nights with friends, and unsupervised drives.

But more independence also means more risk. Distractions like texting, adjusting music, or even just excited passengers can turn a quick drive into a life-changing accident.

We see these cases every year. The injuries are devastating and the families are forever changed.

If you have a teen driver, now's the time to talk about staying focused behind the wheel.

Stay safe, Connecticut families.
