2025 OT and Tips Deduction ("no tax")
This is something to discuss with your tax preparer, not something your employer can assist with. The IRS has published "transition" rules for employer reporting of any Qualified Tip and OT amounts, removing the requirement to report any amount to you, or to the IRS, for tax year 2025. Some employers will try to give you "reasonable" figures, some will not - since there is no requirement to do so. The IRS rules are not clear on how to calculate the figures for 2025, so your employer not giving you any special figures is likely the wisest and safest choice for the employer.
Remember, for tax year 2025, your employer is NOT required to report to you, or to the IRS, Qualified Tip and OT amounts. The IRS has left it up to you, and your tax preparer, to properly report these figures.

President Trump said on Truth Social that once "the $2000 payments made to low and middle income USA Citizens" are completed, the rest of the money made from tariffs will go towards paying down the national debt.

Wondering why the IRS keeps sending the form letters? They really don't know what else to do lately.

More than 170 IRS attorneys have withdrawn from Tax Court cases since January, with dozens leaving the agency entirely. That’s slowing litigation, prompting settlements, and weakening the government’s ability to enforce tax laws.

This along with changing commissioner every few months - we will never get cases settled.

The IRS announced late yesterday that, due to the lapse in federal appropriations, most IRS operations have been suspended effective October 8, 2025. A furlough for 34K of its' 74K employees is now in place.

During this period, many IRS services and communications will be delayed or unavailable until funding is restored and normal operations resume.

As the October 15th tax filing deadline approaches, employees note that "tax returns will be arriving, but no one will be there to process them" and described "lots of confusion" on Wednesday morning as employees were notified of their status. Some were notified by recorded messages telling them they were furloughed, followed by phone calls from managers telling them to ignore that message.

What this means for taxpayers and practitioners:
• Expect delays in IRS responses, including notices, correspondence, and phone support. Sure, there were already delays - they just now are getting caught up processing some problems from the Covid years - but expect MORE delays for any issues.
• Online systems such as e-Services, Transcript Delivery, and PTIN renewal may remain accessible, but support functions will be limited. They only answer the phone less than half the time anyway, so will we even notice a difference?
• Taxpayer inquiries and case resolutions will likely experience significant slowdowns.

You can still pay any taxes due at irs.gov/direct pay. They will always take your money.

Copied from the Washington Post:

"Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday that Frank Bisignano, the Social Security commissioner, will also serve as the IRS’s “chief executive officer,” a role that does not formally exist at the tax agency. The move sidesteps a potentially lengthy Senate confirmation process to fill a leadership vacuum at IRS as it prepares for filing season and tries to integrate massive changes to tax law from Trump and the GOP’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

"Frank Bisignano will run both agencies, though Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will formally remain the acting IRS commissioner."

New Report: IRS Still Using 54 Old Computer Systems

The IRS has around 60 computer systems to handle tax cases. Many of these are very old and don’t connect well with each other. Back in 2015, the IRS started a big project called Enterprise Case Management (ECM) to bring everything into one new system.
But here’s the update from TIGTA:

Even after spending $190 million, the IRS has not shut down a single old system.

* What’s Happening
In 2024, the IRS spent $39 million just to keep old systems running.
Plans keep changing, and leadership changes have slowed things down.
In 2025, the IRS even changed what they call an “old system,” which may push things back even more.
* Why It Matters for Us
IRS workers often can’t see the whole tax picture in one place.
This leads to delays, mistakes, or repeat requests for the same papers.
While new tools are promised, they will likely take years to arrive.
* What We Can Do
Allow extra time when handling cases.
Keep careful notes on every call or letter.
Tell clients delays are from the IRS systems, not us.

Including permanent and acting officials, 7 individuals have served as the Commissioner of the IRS in 2025. This reflects a period of unprecedented leadership turnover at the agency.
The individuals who served as IRS Commissioner in 2025 are:

• Daniel Werfel: Served from March 2023 until January 20, 2025, when he resigned upon the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
• Douglas O'Donnell (Acting): Took over as acting commissioner from January 21 to February 28, 2025.
• Melanie Krause (Acting): Served as acting commissioner from February 29 to April 16, 2025.
• Gary Shapley (Acting): Served briefly as acting commissioner from April 16 to April 18, 2025, before his appointment was opposed by the Treasury Secretary.
• Michael Faulkender (Acting): Took the role of acting commissioner from April 19 to June 16, 2025.
• Billy Long: Confirmed by the Senate on June 12 and sworn in on June 16, 2025. He was removed by President Trump on August 8, giving him one of the shortest tenures for a confirmed commissioner.
• Scott Bessent (Acting): Became the acting commissioner on August 9, 2025, and continues to serve in the role.
