Attorney Elizabeth Killeen has been recognized for the 7th consecutive year in the category of Family Law, after having been recognized seven years as a Rising Star prior to that. Attorney Krista Ferrante Curran has been recognized for the 7th consecutive year as a Rising Star in the category or Real Estate Law. Congratulations to both of these extraordinary attorneys!

I'd like to congratulate my two law partners, Elizabeth D. Killeen and Krista Ferrante Curran who were both once again recognized in the Law & Politics Boston Magazine's list of Super Lawyers. For Elizabeth, this is the sixth consecutive year that she has been recognized for her work in the area of Family Law, which is in addition to the seven years that she was recognized as a Rising Star. For Krista this is her sixth consecutive year being recognized as a Rising Star in the field of Real Estate Law. The entire team here at Killeen Law Office, LLC is very proud of them.

Its hard to believe that its been 20 years since I bought a laptop, printer, rented some space and started my own law firm. Its been an amazing 20-year journey and I have been fortunate to meet so many great people along the way. I’ve had clients who have become dear friends and dear friends who have become clients. I have the most amazing law partner in my wife, Elizabeth, and was fortunate to work alongside my brother, Chris, for 15 great years. In 2011, I hired my first Associate, Krista Ferrante Curran, who is now a partner that I rely upon daily and in 2016, she introduced me to a college friend, Danielle Badavas, who has been a truly valued attorney ever since. I’ve had only 2 amazing senior paralegals, Amy Roy for the first 9 years and Kimberly Belmont for the last 11. 9 years ago, I hired a second paralegal, Patty Dunn, who has been our anchor ever since. There are so many people that I’d like to thank for our success, that I could spend the day listing names, and still not finish my list. So thank you to everyone! I cannot wait to see where the next 20 years take us and the people we will get to meet along the way.

If you have recently established or are in the process of establishing a corporation, limited liability company, partnership or other business entity that requires a filing with the MA Secretary of the Commonwealth, then please be aware that you are likely to receive a form in the mail entitled 2020 Certificate of Good Standing Request Form from MA Certificate of Service that makes it appear as though you are required to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing and need to send a check for $92.50. Please note that MA Certificate Service is not affiliated with the Secretary of State’s office and you can easily order a Certificate of Good Standing online for $25.00. In addition, despite what the letter implies, there are very few reasons that you need a Certificate of Good Standing unless you are buying or selling real estate or obtaining a loan. This is similar to the scam that we see on the real estate side of our practice where a non-government affiliated company tries to fool new homeowners into purchasing a certified copy of their Deed, which a homeowner does not need for any reason. That company charges $86.00 for a document that can be purchased from the Registry of Deeds for $1.00.

Hard to believe that its been fifteen years since I opened my own practice. I have been so fortunate to meet, work with and employ so many great people, more than a few who have become dear friends. Our business is almost exclusively referrals, so a very big thank you to all of our clients and partners who entrust us with their important legal needs. Excited to see where the next fifteen years takes us!
