At Coren Lichtenstein LLP, we recognize that strong legal work is built on strong relationships.

This St. Patrick’s Day, our team came together to share a lunch, take a moment to connect, and appreciate the people who make our firm what it is.

These moments, while simple, reflect the culture we value every day: collaboration, respect, and a shared commitment to supporting one another.

We are grateful for a team that shows up not only for our clients, but for each other.

Moments like these are a reminder of the importance of connection in the work we do every day. How does your team take time to celebrate and connect?

We are proud to spotlight Sol Cohen, a Partner at Coren Lichtenstein LLP, whose practice is built on the belief that everyone deserves affordable, high-quality legal representation during life’s most important transitions. That commitment is why, since 1996, Sol has focused his practice on the two areas that shape everyday life most directly: employment and real estate.

As an employment law attorney, he represents individuals in wrongful termination, wage, hour, and overtime disputes, separation agreements, non-compete matters, and discrimination and sexual harassment cases. As a zealous advocate, Sol helps clients navigate difficult workplace situations with clarity and confidence.

In his real estate practice, Sol guides clients from offer to closing — handling agreement preparation, negotiation, and title issues so that by closing day, the only thing his clients need to do is show up.

His long-standing experience helps clients confidently make informed decisions, whether they are protecting their rights at work or navigating major property decisions in Massachusetts.

Family law questions often begin long before formal court filings begin.

For many individuals, the first uncertainty is not about legal terminology, but about practical decisions: whether legal representation is necessary, how alimony is assessed, how child support is calculated, and what legal boundaries apply in child custody issues.

In Massachusetts, a divorce may be filed without counsel, but where children, significant assets, real estate, or business interests are involved, the legal and financial consequences often extend well beyond paperwork.

A clear understanding of these principles early in the process helps people approach difficult decisions with greater structure and fewer avoidable mistakes.

Under FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education), Massachusetts public schools must provide an education that meets a student’s needs, including all students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

For many families, questions arise when a current placement no longer appears appropriate, when services are not producing expected progress, or when support is delivered in ways that may unintentionally limit classroom participation.

This post addresses several situations that frequently arise during the special education process, including when an out-of-district placement may be considered, how to respond when educational needs are not being adequately addressed, and what options exist when service delivery appears misaligned with a child’s educational program.

Part 2 will address what families should know when they disagree with evaluations, IEP recommendations, or placement decisions.

What is a buy-sell agreement?
What happens when insurance isn't enough?
Are buy-sell valuation formulas reliable?
When should buy-sell agreements be reviewed?

These are some of the most common questions we hear from business owners and their advisors.

And the truth is - there’s no simple answer. But one thing is consistent: if buy-sell terms aren’t structured carefully and revisited regularly - the business gets tested. And sometimes it doesn’t survive.

Business owners don't live forever. Buy-sell provisions are supposed to address that reality. Too often, they’re drafted once and never reviewed.

Buy-sell agreements won’t eliminate conflict when a business owner passes away. But thoughtful structure and regular review make hard moments more predictable and far less destructive.

Commercial leases often involve more than rent and square footage. Provisions addressing maintenance obligations, operating expenses, renewal options, and zoning compliance can significantly affect business operations over time.

Understanding how these terms interact with local regulations and long-term business goals is an important consideration for both property owners and tenants when entering into or renewing a commercial lease.

Coren Lichtenstein LLP represents clients in commercial leasing matters, including businesses working with Robert Finkel, who was recognized by Boston Magazine in 2025 for his work in commercial real estate law.

Academic and personal consequences for students. In Massachusetts, schools are required to follow specific procedures when imposing discipline, particularly in cases involving long-term suspensions or expulsions.

Understanding the general framework of student rights and school obligations can help families approach these situations with greater clarity and awareness. Coren Lichtenstein LLP represents students and families in education-related matters, including work led by Andra Hutchins, who was recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as one of its 2025 Women of Law.

How law firm partners divide income can shape everything from firm culture to collaboration and long-term stability. From formula-based models to origination-focused approaches, there is no single structure that works for every firm. What matters most is clarity, alignment, and trust among partners.

In this blog Jeff Fink outlines several common compensation models and explains how each approach influences behavior, decision-making, and firm dynamics. Thoughtful conversations about goals and values often make compensation decisions more productive and sustainable.

Environmental compliance plays a critical role in development, business operations, and municipal planning across Massachusetts.

Did you know that certain projects such as large developments, public land use changes, and activities affecting wetlands may require environmental impact assessments or filings under state and federal regulations?

Understanding these requirements early can help support project timelines and informed decision-making.
