In observance of Memorial Day, our office will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, May 26.

📞 Connecting with Us Today (Friday, May 22)
In preparation for the holiday closure, our team is dedicating today to focused casework and scheduled client consultations. Because our staff is primarily away from their desks attending to these matters, our phone lines may go to voicemail more frequently than usual.

If you miss us, please leave a detailed message. Rest assured, we are actively monitoring all communications and will respond to any urgent matters as promptly as possible.

🎖️ Remembering the True Meaning of Memorial Day
As we head into the long weekend, our firm joins the nation in paused reflection to honor the true significance of this holiday. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the immense bravery and selflessness of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our nation's armed forces. We are profoundly grateful for their service.

We wish you and your family a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

⚖️ BIG CHANGES ARE COMING TO MAINE DIVORCE LAW IN 2027: Is Your Future Protected? ⚖️

Starting January 1, 2027, Maine is implementing a major shift in how spousal support (alimony) is calculated. If you are married, or planning to get married, you need to know how these statutory updates could fundamentally alter your financial obligations or entitlements.

Here is what is changing—and how you can take control of your financial destiny before the law does it for you.

📉 The New Formula Baseline:

Maine has historically relied on a broad list of judicial factors to decide spousal support. Under the new law (LD 2142), the state introduces a strict, mathematical starting point for marriages lasting 10 years or longer.

The court will now use a "rebuttable presumption formula" based directly on the difference between each spouse’s gross income and the precise duration of the marriage. This means spousal support amounts will become highly predictable, mechanical, and rigid.

🚫 Marital Fault Does Not Matter:

A common misconception is that marital misconduct—like infidelity or emotional breakdown—will protect a high earner from paying alimony or guarantee a higher payout for the other.

In Maine, general spousal support is determined regardless of marital fault. The state functions under a "no-fault" framework for these calculations, meaning the court focuses strictly on economic numbers and the length of the marriage, not who caused the relationship to end.

🛡️ Don't Let the State Decide: The Power of a Prenuptial Agreement:

If you do not want your financial future bound by a generic, state-mandated mathematical formula, you don't have to be.

By executing a tailored Prenuptial Agreement (or a Postnuptial Agreement if you are already married), you and your partner can establish your own terms for spousal support.

A valid prenuptial agreement allows you to:

* Waive general spousal support entirely.

* Cap the maximum amount or duration of potential support.

* Create a customized financial structure that fits your unique family dynamics and expectations.

Take Control Early: The law provides a default safety net, but it is a one-size-fits-all solution. A prenuptial agreement ensures that you dictate your financial terms, not a baseline statutory formula.

📞 Schedule a Consultation Today:

Whether you are planning an upcoming wedding or looking to protect assets during an existing marriage, our experienced family law team is here to help you navigate these upcoming 2027 guidelines.

⚠️Three ways a 10-year-old Will can fail your loved ones. ⚠️

A lot can happen in a decade. While a Last Will and Testament doesn’t technically have an expiration date, its effectiveness certainly can. If your Will was drafted back in 2016, it might be more of a "time capsule" than a legal shield—and that could lead to unintended consequences for your family.

Here are the 3 reasons your decade-old Will needs a 2026 refresh:

1️⃣ Major Life Shifts 💍
In ten years, families grow and change. Since 2016, have you married, divorced, or welcomed new children or grandchildren? If your Will hasn't been updated to reflect your current family structure, your assets might end up in the wrong hands—or tied up in a costly, public court battle that your loved ones aren't prepared for.

2️⃣ The "Missing" Personal Representative 🕵️‍♀️
The person you chose to manage your estate a decade ago might no longer be the best fit today. They may have moved across the country, fallen ill, or you may simply no longer be in close contact. If your named personal representative is unable or unwilling to serve, the court—not you—may get to decide who handles your legacy.

3️⃣ The "Asset Gap" 💰
Your financial life probably looks very different than it did ten years ago. From new real estate and business ventures to modern assets like cryptocurrency and digital accounts, an old Will often fails to account for current wealth. This creates an "Asset Gap" where your newest and most valuable property can be left unprotected, or your Will tries to give away items you no longer own.

Don’t leave your legacy to chance. A quick professional review ensures your wishes are protected and your family is secure in 2026 and beyond.

Throwback to Where It All Began! 🏛️🎓

Dominion Law, LLC PA is taking a little trip down memory lane this week!

We, Attorneys Andrew and Sarah Catherman, are back in Ada, Ohio, visiting our alma mater. It’s hard to believe it’s been over a decade since we were walking these halls as students in the Class of 2014. From long nights in the law library to the day we finally put on those gowns, this campus is where our professional journey truly started.

We are spending the week exploring our old stomping grounds and reflecting on how far we’ve come since graduation. It’s been wonderful to be back in front of the law school today!

Business as usual: While we are away, the office remains fully operational. Attorney Jon Provisor and our incredible staff, Cori and Cheryl, are in the office and ready to assist you with your legal needs.

Check out some of our favorite memories below—from 2014 to our 10-year reunion, and a few shots from our visit today! 📸👇

Today is Law Day, a time to reflect on the principles that guide our nation. ⚖️🏛️

The rule of law is intended to be a shield for the vulnerable and a foundation for fairness. However, we recognize that the system is not perfect. There are still significant hurdles to clear and systemic issues to address before "equal justice under law" is a reality for everyone.

At Dominion Law, LLC PA, we don't just see the law as a set of rules—we see it as an ongoing commitment. Law Day isn't just about celebrating what we have; it’s about acknowledging the work that still needs to be done to ensure the legal system serves every member of our community equitably.

We are proud to be part of the legal profession, and we remain dedicated to the hard work of advocacy, reform, and the tireless pursuit of true justice.
