5 Things First-Time Home Buyers Should Know
💰 Get pre-approved BEFORE you start house hunting. Knowing what you can comfortably afford gives you confidence and shows sellers you're serious. Talk to a lender early! I'm happy to share recommendations for great local lenders here in the Valley.
🔎 Don't skip the home inspection. Even if a home looks perfect, a professional inspection can uncover issues you'd never see on your own. Think of it as protecting your investment. I always recommend this step…it's your navigator's non-negotiable!
🏘 Think beyond the house. Think about the neighborhood. Consider your commute, proximity to schools, grocery stores, outdoor recreation, and the overall feel of the community. In the Mat-Su, we're lucky to have so many unique neighborhoods to choose from.
🛠 Understand what you can (and can't) change. Paint colors, fixtures, and flooring are easy to update. But the lot, the floorplan, and the location? Those are forever. Focus on the bones and the things you can't change.
💸 Don't make big purchases or open new credit lines while you're buying a home. This one catches a lot of first-time buyers off guard! Financing a new car, opening a credit card, or making large purchases while you're under contract can affect your credit score and even jeopardize your loan approval. Once you're in the buying process, keep things steady and save the shopping spree for after you get the keys.
Buying your first home should feel exciting, not overwhelming. I'd love to help you navigate it every step of the way!
