Hannah Akintoye Law, PLLC is a Washington, DC criminal defense and personal injury law firm.

We are seeking a Contract Litigation Paralegal to work with our law firm for approximately 10-15 hours/week during the hours of 8:30am-6pm EST Monday-Friday. We are looking for someone who is interested in having a long-term relationship with our firm. The position will require a minimum 6 month commitment. You will be evaluated regularly during that time frame, and at the end of the 6 months, if your performance is exceptional, our goal is to offer a more permanent position with the law firm.

This is a virtual position and there is no requirement to live in the DC area, however preference will be given to individuals who reside in the DMV area, have experience with the DC Court System, and/or who have the ability to occasionally appear in the office in the future for urgent client matters.

The general duties of the litigation paralegal will be the following:

•Drafting criminal defense and personal injury motions
•Drafting Personal Injury demands
•Drafting memoranda
•Reviewing and summarizing medical records for personal injury matters
•Writing letters, documents, and legal correspondence
•Reviewing discovery
•Preparing client matters for trial
•Managing calendars and scheduling meetings, events, and appointments
•Conducting new client intake
•Communicating with clients and providing updates to clients
•Navigating the Clio practice management system
•General administrative tasks

Minimum Requirements
• bachelor's degree
•Previous litigation experience
•Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a paralegal in the firm’s areas of practice
•Experience with LexisNexis and/or Westlaw

Compensation: The rate of pay for the position is hourly, and will be commensurate to relevant experience. Please include salary requirements in application form.

Today we recognize Vaino H Spencer. She was born in Los Angeles, California on July 22, 1920, and died October 25, 2016. At the young age of 32, she passed the California Bar and was the third African American woman admitted to the State Bar. She was not only an attorney, but also a judge. She was the third Black female Judge in US history and the first African American woman to serve on the bench in California. We honor Vaino Spencer as she co-founded the Black Lawyers Association in 1975 and the National Association of Women Judges in 1979.

As we continue to honor notable black women attorneys, today we recognize the late Cheslie Kryst. She was born on April 28, 1991, and tragically passed away on January 30, 2022. Cheslie wore many hats; she was crowned Miss USA 2019, she was an American television correspondent, model, and attorney. Cheslie attended law school at Wake Forest University School of law. Upon graduating, she was licensed to practice in both North Carolina and South Carolina. She was known in her legal career as one who fought for social justice. Cheslie will be missed by many and may her beautiful soul rest peacefully.

Today, we recognize Barbara Jordan. She was an American lawyer, educator and politician who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. She obtained her law degree from Boston University School of Law, and later became the first Southern African-American woman elected to the United States House of Representatives. She was such a force in civil rights and broke down many barriers. Thank you for your contribution to history Barbara Jordan!
