Getting pulled over by the police 👮‍♀️is not a pleasant experience, but it’s even worse when you always get pulled over for no reason at all 😩.

There’s one common trend that I’ve seen police officers 👮‍♀️ use to pull people over: Tinted windows 🚘.

If you have tinted windows, I explain in this video how officers use this as a tool to stop people illegally and what you should know next time you think about installing tinted windows.

Check out the video and let me know if your thoughts👇. Has this ever happened to you?

If you’ve ever been arrested and you’re not a US citizen, you may one day hope to apply to become a citizen 🇺🇸. It's really important that your lawyer knows what a crime involving moral turpitude is so that you can work towards an outcome that doesn’t affect your chances of one day getting citizenship.

Most people don’t know that just getting charged or arrested for a crime involving moral turpitude can affect your application for US citizenship even if you were never found guilty 😳.

So what are your thoughts? 🤔Do you think it’s fair for a person whose charges were dismissed to be denied the right to US citizenship? 👇

What is the point of committing a crime if you end up getting caught? 🤔

It’s unfortunate that so many people get arrested for things that can easily be avoided.

That’s why in this video Attorney Hannah Akintoye discusses how NOT to get caught committing a crime. Who better to offer advice on this topic than a criminal defense attorney 😌!

Attorney Akintoye also offers some alternative solutions for what you can do to avoid getting arrested 👮‍♀️in the future if you’re tempted to do something you know you shouldn’t do!

Check it out and comment letting us know whether or not you agree!

I love organizations that support and uplift my community ❤️.

Not the ones that just treat people like another number, but the ones that truly impact lives, meet you where you are in life, and genuinely bring that sense of happiness to your soul.

For me, Christian Legal Aid of DC (CLADC) is one of my favorite organizations that do just that in the DC community. They provide free legal assistance in criminal record sealing, estate planning, landlord/tenant matters and so much more.

This Tuesday September 12, 2023 at 6pm EST, they are hosting their Faith and Law Lecture. This is a FREE in-person panel event with local leaders who will be discussing how families impacted by poverty are vulnerable to injustice in our legal systems.

I think this is going to be a really insightful topic of discussion and I would love for anyone who is interested to join!

The other day I mentioned that I help parents of college students teach their college kids how to avoid arrests and dangerous friend groups in college. I realized that some people didn’t really know what that meant.

So, let me say this. If your first instinct was:

“That topic doesn’t apply to me because my kid would never get arrested,” And you have a kid who is in college or about to enter college, I would kindly encourage you to read to the end of this post.

It’s pretty simple.

First, think about whether you have ever done any of the following:

a) Had a drink of alcohol under the age of 21
b) Stolen something from the checkout line at a grocery store
c) Been extremely drunk in a public place
d) Taken prescription meds from someone so you could focus, or feel better; or
e) Driven home after having too many drinks at bar, or even a wedding

Now, if the answer to any one of these is yes, then ask yourself how old you were when the majority of these events happened in your life.

Most people would say they were in college, or somewhere in their 20’s.

Next, think about whether your parents or guardians ever told you NOT to do any of these things. Did it actually make a difference in your decision? In most situations, it does not.

What most parents don’t realize is that everything that I listed above is an arrestable offense no matter where you live.

So if you have made 1 or more of these mistakes in life, what makes you think your kids won’t do the same once they’re out on their own in college?

It comes down to separating yourself from what every other parent has done.

To get a different outcome for your kids, you have to take a different approach than most. And the one difference that will far separate you from every other parent sending their kids to college is you can start learning what college kids are getting arrested for today so you're informed on how to protect your college kid’s future tomorrow.

For most people, life is like a boxing match 🥊. Every morning you step into a ring and you have to fight for something.

Some people have to fight for equal pay or for that next promotion. Some have to fight depression because life is becoming overwhelming. Others have been wronged by someone and may have to fight to be made whole again.

But an attorney’s fight is a lot different. Not only do they fight for themselves; More importantly they fight for other people.

You see, in this boxing match of life you will need the help of an attorney at some point.

Imagine fighting in a boxing match without a trainer or corner man. In between each round, the corner man provides you with advice on what your next move should be. They point out your opponent’s weaknesses, cheer you on 👏, and do what is necessary to ensure you win the fight 🏆.

They say you can’t win a fight without someone in your corner; And an attorney is the one thing you don’t want to cut out of your corner.

I fight for people daily. It’s what I do.

📌I help families get justice when a loved one has been injured;
📌I help people fight for their rights when they’ve been arrested; and
📌 I help parents of college students understand how to keep their kids safe from arrests and dangerous friend groups in college

Most importantly, I help people believe they’re worthy of fighting life’s battles ❤️.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth!

What is Juneteenth? On June 19, 1865 (Juneteenth) it was announced after the civil war that slaves are now free, although it is not the actual day that slavery was abolished. Slavery was abolished once the 13th amendment was passed on December 6, 1865.

Believe it or not, many people still do not know what Juneteenth is. This is a great time to talk with your friends, family, co-workers, and colleagues about Juneteenth and its significance in American History!

Today is my Birthday! 🥳🥳

Every trip around the sun, I always reflect on what I have accomplished, and what I’m thankful for. Without a doubt, there is always one thing that I am grateful for:

I’ve never had to worry about being denied a job ❌, or any opportunity because of a criminal record .

So this year, my sincere birthday wish is for a donation to a cause that helps people clear their record. The organization is called Christian Legal Aid of DC, and I love the fact that they help people from underserved communities ❤️.

Anything that you can donate, no matter how small would be appreciated!

Imagine coming to this country 20 years ago with your children who are all under the age of 7 👶.

You and your children become permanent residents 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. You raise your children with the best morals and guidance you can offer.

Your children have now blossomed into responsible young adults with wonderful careers and opportunities 🧑‍💼. Everyday, you are grateful at how successful they have become ❤️.

Then one day you get a call 📞. Your only son is locked up on gun and drug charges and could be facing deportation. He is looking at a mandatory 5 years in jail and could be facing a maximum of over 100 years in prison for his FIRST ever arrest 😧.

You are in disbelief that your intelligent, well-mannered, and loving son could ever be held in jail for such charges.

Your son cannot take a plea deal to get probation ❌ because he will get deported to a country he hasn’t lived in for the last 20 years; So he has no other option but to go to trial 🧑‍⚖️.

The trial takes 1 whole week and finally the jury comes back with a verdict of NOT GUILTY 🙌.

This is the story of many parents. Parenting doesn’t just stop when your kids turn 18. You worry about them for a lifetime.

Luckily, this client was blessed to have such a favorable outcome. I’m thankful that this family trusted me with the trajectory of this young man’s future ❤️.

Being arrested for the first time can be a bit scary. 😣

The only good news is that in most states there are first time offender programs or similar programs available especially for minor charges.

The problem with being arrested at any point in time, is that you also have to deal with having an arrest record 📄…even if the charges eventually get dismissed.

When choosing an attorney 🧑‍⚖️, it’s important to select someone who not only helps you fight the charges but advises you of the options you may have for clearing your record.

Let’s be honest. No one wakes up begging for a criminal record. 🙅

But it happens.🤷

Sometimes it could be a mistake, or lapse in judgment. Other times, you just got caught and have to suffer the consequences.😣

Truth is, if you get charged with a crime, regardless of the outcome, you’ll still end up with a criminal record.

But you can wipe the slate clean 🧼 by having your record sealed or expunged.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't understand the difference between the two.

In today's video, Criminal Defense Attorney Hannah Akintoye explains the difference between getting a record expunged vs. sealed.

Share this information with a loved one especially if they have ever faced a criminal charge.

So you thought the birds 🕊 and the bees 🐝 chat was difficult huh?

Well let me introduce you to the “Consent” conversation. This is the chat that most parents find difficult to have with their student in college, so they just avoid it 😬.

THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE 😩!!

While it may be an awkward conversation to have, it’s probably the most important❗️

Some sexual encounters can be difficult to read 📚. But assuming the other person is “cool with it” because they didn’t speak up is the easiest way to land a sexual assault charge 😳.

Having chats like this will save you and your college student the headache 🤕 and embarrassment of having to ever deal with sexual assault allegations.

Sometimes people get upset 😡 with me for interpreting the law because it negatively affects them.

But why get upset with the lawyer? I didn’t create these laws!!

Someone voted 🗳 for the people who created the laws that apply to you. Some of the laws may be helpful to you and your family 🙂, and others not so favorable 🙁.

Ever wonder what you can do to change unfavorable laws?

Let’s face it. Nobody goes out on Halloween 🎃 expecting to get arrested, but it happens more often than not❗️

There will be extra police presence 👮‍♀️ on the roads during Halloween to catch people who try to steal, destroy property, or cause disturbances.

Let’s not forget that detectives 🕵️ will be investigating crimes including looking through video surveillance 🎥 and online purchase records.

Whether it's a case of mistaken identity or a situation that went left, having the contact information of a criminal defense lawyer 🧑‍💼 handy is an extremely wise thing to do on Halloween.

📌If you get into any trouble on Halloween give us a call 👉 (202) 403 -2292. Spending time in jail and risking the loss of your job or career isn’t worth it.

Binge drinking is a college student’s worst enemy 😕❗️

Your college student spends all week going to classes, and studying for exams (wink, wink). By the end of the week they are overwhelmed with stress 😩.

One of the biggest ways that college students help ease the stress is by enjoying the BIGGEST PARTY of the weekend 🥳, because you only live once right 🍻?

➡️ While there's nothing wrong with hanging out with friends or attending parties, if your college student is binge drinking at these parties, the consequences below could destroy their future careers:

📌 DUI CHARGES - Extremely hard to get off of your record. Prospective employers cringe when they see DUI charges on a background check.

📌 SUSPENSION FROM COLLEGE - All schools have a code of conduct that students must follow to remain enrolled. Depending on the severity of what your college student did while binge drinking, they can get suspended from school which can make it hard for them to graduate on time or transfer to another school.

📌 LOSING A SCHOLARSHIP - Committing a crime while binge drinking could mean losing financial aid or scholarships 💵. If your child is a student-athlete, this can also be a huge loss.

If you’re a proactive parent, you can prevent this from happening to your college student:

Most people who are being investigated for a crime👮‍♀️ don’t even know it.

When the police contact you about an incident you were involved in to get “your side of the story,” should you give your version of events, especially when someone lied about what you did?🤔

Chances are, this is a trap‼️

In today’s video, Attorney Hannah Akintoye discusses the top 3 rules to remember when you are in a situation where the police are asking for your side of the story.

📌 Rule #1: Never make a statement to the police unless you have spoken to an attorney first
📌 Rule #2: Never make any promises to the police
📌 Rule #3: If the police had probable cause to arrest you, most of the time they would have already arrested you.

👉Check out the video for the full details and don’t forget to share these 3 rules with your loved ones!
