I’m proud to be endorsed by Teamsters Local 251! While a student at Providence College, I worked sorting packages at UPS. I was lucky to be member of the Local 251 - they had my back, helping me balance work and school. In my professional life, I’ve seen firsthand how hardworking men and women without that same ability to join a union can have the dignity of their work taken from them.

At the State House, I’ll keep standing up for the working people of Warwick & East Greenwich, while always placing an emphasis on the inherent dignity which comes with an respectable day’s work!

Exciting news! Join us in congratulating the hardworking store associates, inventory coordinator, and lead inventory coordinator employed at Curaleaf’s medicinal dispensary in Hanover, Massachusetts, for voting unanimously to approve a first contract! The three-year agreement includes guaranteed wage increases, improved starting rates, a ratification bonus, improvements in paid sick leave, additional paid holidays, protected time and a half on Sundays and Holidays, a robust grievance procedure and workplace protections, and a newly secured opportunity to earn tips. 
 
Samuel Cortezano, a store associate and member of the negotiating committee, stated after the vote, “I’m so proud of our team for sticking together and achieving this victory. We collectively made a decision to form our union during the pandemic to ensure we have a strong voice on the job and this contract is now a huge leap forward for all of us. We are proud to continue the movement of Curaleaf workers unionizing and encourage all other workers across the company to join us by saying Union Yes!” 
 
Sam Marvin, Director of Organizing at UFCW Local 328, stated, “Forming a union at a multi-billion dollar company, the largest cannabis company in the world, is never easy. However, these workers showed the power of solidarity throughout this process. We are so proud of our partnership and welcome them to our union family!”

For many, Labor Day is a celebration that marks the end of summer with a cookout and a long weekend. However, Labor Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of workers that came before us and that hardworking families across the country are still fighting to protect and build upon today.

We stand in solidarity with the entire labor movement of workers standing together to build a better future for their families and communities and thank our union family for all that they do each and every day. Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Labor Day!
