The United Kingdom is in the process, and approved, of eliminating jury trials for certain crimes that carry a punishment less than three (3) years. Also, those who are charged with complicated fraud and financial crimes are also limited in their right to have a trial by jury. A disturbing development that limits some crucial due process rights for defendants. Whether we could see similar changes in the United States does not seem likely at this time, but indeed does set a troubling precedent that may someday soon have to be addressed in the United States.

The reforms are being brought in to tackle unprecedented delays in the Crown Court.

Have you signed up yet for the Gobble, Gobble Run or Wobble 5k in Old Town Warrenton on Nov. 22? The race will start at 8 a.m. in front of the Old Courthouse. A shorter Kids Dash will begin at 8:45 a.m. Walkers are welcome too!
Register at runsignup.com before Nov. 10 to receive a collectible Gobble Gobble T-shirt. Registration is $35 for the 5k, $10 for the Kids Dash. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
