You go on vacation to Maine and trip over a rug in your rental.

You rent bikes in Newport and get clipped on your way to get ice cream.

I know you just want to get on with your trip or back home. You don’t want to call a lawyer, but you probably should.

And every state has a hard deadline for filing a case. Miss it, and your case is done. No matter how bad the injury, no matter whose fault it was.

Counting down to the deadline to file your claim starts the day of the accident, not the day you pick up the phone.

So, if you get hurt on a trip this summer, talk to a personal injury lawyer near you, just to be safe. They’ll be able to tell you if your situation warrants filing a claim.

I make educational videos about the law for fun and to be helpful, so this is not legal advice.

Have fun this summer, but be careful out there.

Jim and Steve sat down with Craig Ripley from the podcast Living Off the Slab for a conversation about motorcycles, the law, and what riders are really up against after a crash.

It’s a good listen, especially if you ride.

They talk about the legal side of motorcycle accidents, the assumptions riders face, and why these cases are often tougher than people expect.

If you’re part of the motorcycle community, or you know someone who is, give it a watch here:

A lot of motorcycle accident cases get lowballed in the settlement process. Swipe through to see why. Save this if you ride. Send it to someone who does.

Sadly, of the people killed on U.S. roadways in 2024, a little less than half — 48% — weren't wearing a seat belt.

This is your reminder to Buckle up. Every Trip. Every time. ✅

If you ride a motorcycle in Massachusetts and you get hit, you start your case from a tougher spot than the guy in the car who hit you…if you can believe that!

I can tell you that bias against motorcycle riders is real.

Adjusters and juries have it. You probably do too.

You see one knucklehead weaving in and out of traffic, and you assume every rider drives that way.

My experience is, by and large, bikers are more careful than motorists because they know how vulnerable they are.

If you got hit on your bike this summer, talk to a personal injury lawyer who has experience winning motorcycle accident cases.

These cases are harder from day one. You have to fight that bias to make sure the settlement isn’t affected, and your client gets the money they need to get well.

That’s my 2 cents for the internet - but it’s not official legal advice.

Is maintaining the sidewalk in front of your house up to you or the city? It depends.

Snow and ice are one thing. Broken concrete, roots pushing pavement up, and sidewalk defects are another.

That’s why a sidewalk injury is not something to guess your way through.

A lot depends on what caused the fall, where exactly it happened, and who was responsible for that part of the property.

That matters because sidewalk cases against a city or town play by a different set of rules, and the timeline moves fast.

So, if you got hurt on somebody’s poorly maintained sidewalk, don’t assume the answer is obvious just because the house or building is right there.

Take pictures. Pin down the exact spot. Then talk to a lawyer before you start getting different answers from different people.
