It’s that time of year again.

I'm here on FB, where I really do not tread any longer (find me on related product, Instagram, it's nicer even if mostly the same).

Not everything is “strictly” holiday music, but there is at least some justification for songs’ inclusion.

The sentiment is clear: Happy Holidays.

This year, two mixes. “Disc” one and two, if you will.

First up, "And Her Name Was Christmas.”

In honor of Rodriguez, whose "Climb Up On My Music." is included both because "there was a girl called Christmas..." and because 2023 saw his passing on August 8 in Detroit, MI. There’s a fascinating 2012 documentary, “Searching for Sugar Man,” in which two South Africans set out to discover what happened to the mysterious 1970s rock n roller, whose recordings achieved fame there.

I intend the first mix to be more upbeat, and it is, but I realize it starts a little askew of happy. But don’t worry, it cheers up quick.
And this year’s second offering, ‘(DARK) Weight of the Season’ is intended to be more on the somber side of the holiday. Seasonal Affective Disorder? Just enjoy!

Dropbox hosts the full mixes, as Spotify again lacks many of the tracks I found and selected. For the truly committed, there are a couple of substitutions, though, only in Spotify, not in the Dropbox share.

Mountain biking. Originated in California (Marin County, north bay), yet more restrictive access rules than many states.

This study, like prior studies, confirms that hikers and horses cause greater erosion impact than bike wheels/tires. Similarly, studies have found that trail user conflicts essentially disappear when trails (yes, even single track) are open to all users compared to locations where some users are excluded. In other words, take away the "you're breaking the rules" affront, and users are better at sharing.

And more, where shared use is the rule, there is not only a decrease in conflict, there is no increase in accidents or injury to hikers or equestrians.

The key to shared use of trails is sensible common courtesy and respect.
