A settlement agreement doesn’t mean the check is in your hands just yet.

After both sides agree to a settlement, a release is signed and the insurance company processes the payment. Settlement checks are typically sent to your attorney, who deposits the funds into a client trust account and handles outstanding medical bills, liens, attorney’s fees, and case expenses.

Once the check clears and any liens are resolved, your attorney can finalize the disbursement and provide you with the remaining settlement funds. Depending on the circumstances, this process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.

At Alpert Schreyer Personal Injury Attorneys, we handle these details from settlement through final disbursement, keeping the process moving while protecting your interests every step of the way.

When a semi-truck weighing up to 80,000 pounds collides with a passenger vehicle, the damage can be severe. One of the most important pieces of evidence may be inside the truck itself: the black box.

A truck’s Event Data Recorder can capture information like speed, braking, acceleration, steering, and other data from the moments before and during a crash. This can help reconstruct what happened and determine whether driver behavior, maintenance issues, or other factors contributed to the collision.

Because some black box data can be overwritten or deleted, acting quickly to preserve this evidence is critical.

At Alpert Schreyer Personal Injury Attorneys, our Maryland truck accident attorneys know how to investigate these complex crashes, preserve critical evidence, and work with experts to build a strong case.

Can You Sue Uber For an Accident in Maryland?

Uber accident claims can be more complicated than a typical car accident because the insurance coverage available may depend on what the driver was doing in the app when the crash occurred.

If the driver was offline, their personal auto insurance may apply. If they were logged in and waiting for a ride request, limited Uber coverage may be available. Once a ride is accepted or a passenger is in the vehicle, Uber provides at least $1 million in third-party liability coverage.

And when multiple vehicles are involved, determining who is responsible can become even more complicated. Multiple drivers, insurance policies, and potential causes of the crash may need to be investigated.

Whether you were an Uber passenger, another driver, pedestrian, or cyclist, establishing fault and connecting your injuries to the crash are important parts of pursuing compensation.

If you’ve been injured in an Uber accident in Maryland, the attorneys at Alpert Schreyer can investigate the crash, identify the insurance coverage that may apply, and help protect your claim.

Serious injuries can have lasting effects on your work, your daily life, and your future. When an insurance company undervalues what you’ve been through, having experienced legal representation can make all the difference.

When you’re injured on someone else’s property, the evidence can make all the difference.

Photos of the hazard, surveillance footage, witness statements, incident reports, maintenance records, and medical documentation can all help establish what happened, who may be responsible, and the extent of your injuries.

Evidence can also become harder to obtain as time passes. That’s especially important in Maryland, where contributory negligence can prevent an injured person from recovering compensation if they are found even partially at fault.

At Alpert Schreyer, our premises liability attorneys move quickly to investigate claims, preserve critical evidence, deal with insurance companies, and build the strongest case possible for our clients.

If you’ve been injured because of an unsafe condition on someone else’s property, contact Alpert Schreyer for a free consultation.

Settling a personal injury claim can be a long process, but there’s one thing you shouldn’t have to worry about: paying your attorney upfront.

At Alpert Schreyer, you pay no attorney’s fees unless we win your case. Our representation is handled on a contingency fee basis, meaning our fees come from the compensation we recover for you—not out of your own pocket.

So, how long does it take to receive a settlement check? There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. After a settlement is reached, the insurance company must process the payment, the check must clear, and any medical liens or outstanding expenses may need to be resolved before your portion can be distributed.

These steps can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months depending on the circumstances of your case. Our job is to handle the legal process, negotiate with insurance companies, and work to maximize the compensation you receive while you focus on recovering.

A serious crash involving a commercial truck shut down portions of Route 50 in Prince George's County this morning after the truck struck the center barrier, overturned, and caught fire. One person was critically injured, and the crash closed westbound lanes for hours as emergency crews responded and cleaned up the scene.

Crashes involving commercial trucks are often far more devastating than typical car accidents, leaving victims with serious injuries, mounting medical bills, lost income, and a long road to recovery.

Unlike most motor vehicle accidents, truck accident claims often involve multiple parties, including the driver, the trucking company, insurers, and potentially maintenance or cargo-loading companies. Navigating those claims while recovering from an injury can quickly become overwhelming.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a truck accident in Maryland, the personal injury attorneys at Alpert Schreyer can help protect your rights and fight for the compensation you deserve.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by today's crash.
