We were joined by volunteer attorneys Janette Baldwin, Garrett Beach, Prof. Bridget Fuselier, Tony Nguyen, Don Raybold, and our dedicated Baylor Law School students! We are so grateful to Tyler Sims for representing a veteran in Bell County on a pro bono basis. The veteran was swimming in debt and Sims Bankruptcy Law, PLLC stepped up to get him a discharge in bankruptcy this summer! Tyler was one of our Baylor Law School Veterans Clinic Advocates of the Year in 2025 and we are blessed to have him on our team!

This month marks ten years of dedicated volunteer service to our veterans at the Heart of Texas Veterans One Stop by attorney Garrett Beach of The Zimmerman Law Firm. Garrett was named our 2018 Advocate of the Year and has been an incredible friend and asset to the Veterans Clinic for a decade. Garrett's remarkable consistency and uncommon dedication have been the anchor of our legal services, providing good counsel in estate, trust, and real estate matters. We are truly blessed to have Garrett on our team serving our veterans!

A veteran and his spouse came into our legal advice clinic in May 2026. Their 12 year-old niece had been living with them since her mother had passed away. They needed a court order to establish legal custody to their niece so that they could continue to be her caregiver. Attorney John Palmer of Naman Howell Smith & Lee, PLLC took the case on a pro bono basis. He filed suit and obtained the custody order in August. We are blessed to have lawyers like John Palmer, who stand up for our veterans when they are in need!
