Starting today, July 1st, 2026, for those convicted of reckless driving for speeds 101 mph or faster in Virginia, the judge shall require installation of a speed control device for 60 days to six months, unless the judge suspends the defendant’s license instead.

In April of 2026, our lawyers served throughout Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Outright dismissals in Virginia Beach General District Court include: 99/60 RD, 97/55 RD, 89/55 RD, 59/35 RD, ASAP violation, Hit and Run (unattended vehicle), and driving under a suspended license. Also in Virginia Beach, a 91/55 was reduced to speeding at 20 over; and 6 reductions to improper driving were given when originally charged with 92/55 RD, 83/55 RD, 82/45 RD, 73/35 RD, reckless driving generally, and reckless driving in parking lots.

In other cities wins include: Racing charge dismissed in Portsmouth General District Court; 93/55 RD reduced to speeding at 90/55 (non-reckless) in Norfolk General District Court; and Reckless Driving Generally dismissed in Chesapeake General District Court.

In March of 2026, our lawyers served clients throughout Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In Virginia Beach General District Court, a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge was reduced to reckless driving, and a 91/55 RD and 89/55 RD were both reduced to improper driving. One client received 1 day in jail with no license suspension for driving at 110 mph. Clients received outright dismissals for 90/55 RD, 87/55 RD, 85/55 RD, 80/55 RD, driving on a suspended license, no driver’s license, and driving on a permit without a licensed driver in the car.

Notable reductions included: 108/55 RD reduced to speeding at the same speed and 100/55 RD reduced to improper driving in Norfolk General District Court, 88/65 RD reduced to defective speedometer in York General District Court; 89/60 RD reduced to improper driving in Portsmouth General District Court; 75/45 RD reduced to improper driving in Northampton General District Court; and 88/55 RD reduced to speeding at 19 over in Virginia Beach Circuit Court. One client in Portsmouth General District Court avoided jail for 106/45 RD and another client avoid jail for a concealed handgun permit charge in Virginia Beach General District Court.
