🏡 A little behind the scenes of my real estate journey…

One thing I knew from the beginning was that I didn’t want to simply get my license and figure everything out on my own.

I wanted to learn from people who have actually been in the business, know Northern Virginia real estate, and aren’t afraid to tell me when I’m wrong. 😂

That’s where my mentor, Jose Barreto , comes in.

We meet every couple of weeks and work through different aspects of the business, from navigating the MLS to understanding contracts and the many details that go into a real estate transaction.

And when I say brutally honest, I mean it. He won’t sugarcoat anything for me 😂.

If I’m missing something or approaching something the wrong way, I want to know. I’d much rather learn it now than when I’m sitting across from a client.

I’m also incredibly grateful to Jose A. Barreto , my mentor’s brother and the instructor for my real estate classes. His knowledge and teaching gave me a strong foundation going into the licensing exam, and thanks to him, I aced the exam on my first try! 🎉

Having both of them in my corner has been an incredible part of this journey.

So yes, I’m new to working as a real estate agent.

But I’m not doing this alone.

I’m building my business with guidance from experienced professionals because my goal is to become the kind of real estate professional my clients can trust to help them navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

There’s still plenty to learn, but I’m excited about the process.

One step at a time. 🏡💙

🏡 What does getting started in real estate actually look like?

One thing I knew from the beginning was that I didn’t want to simply get my license and figure everything out on my own.

If I’m missing something, making an assumption, or approaching something the wrong way, I want to know. I’d much rather hear it while I’m learning than when I’m sitting across from a client.

I’m also incredibly grateful to Jose Antonio Barreto - Real Estate, my mentor’s brother and the instructor for my real estate classes. His knowledge, teaching style, and willingness to share his experience gave me a strong foundation going into the licensing exam. Thanks to him, I aced the exam on my first try! 🎉

Having both of them in my corner has made this journey so much more meaningful.

I’m not trying to rush through the learning curve. I’m building a strong foundation and surrounding myself with people who have the experience to help me do this the right way.

So while I may be new to working as a real estate agent, I’m not doing this alone.

My goal is for my future clients to know that when they work with me, they’re getting not only my dedication and attention, but also the experience and perspective of the professionals I have chosen to learn from and work alongside.

There’s still plenty to learn, but I’m excited about the process, and even more excited about where it’s taking me.

🏡 Why I decided to get into real estate?

Real Estate has actually been on my mind for a long time.

My husband served in the military for 14 years, so moving was a big part of our life. Like many military families, we started out renting, but eventually we decided to buy.

Over the years, we’ve owned four properties. Looking back, buying was always the right decision for us. We were fortunate enough to build equity and make money when we sold or rented our properties.

But we also made LOTS of mistakes. There were things we didn't know, questions we didn't think to ask, and decisions we made without fully understanding the long-term implications. Those experiences stayed with me.

Last year, when I faced some uncertainty about my career, I started thinking seriously about what I wanted my next chapter to look like. I wanted to build a second career, something I could grow, have more control over, and continue to rely on for years to come.

Real Estate kept coming back to me. At first, I approached it as a personal learning opportunity. I wanted to understand the business, learn the market, and become more knowledgeable about something that had already played such an important role in my own life, and perhaps invest in some additional properties.

But as I’ve gotten further into it, I’ve realized there’s something much bigger motivating me:

I don't want other people to make the same mistakes I made!

Helping people has always been one of the strongest motivations behind everything I do. And Real Estate allows me to do that in a very meaningful way.

Buying or selling a home isn't just a transaction. It's a major financial and personal decision, and I want to help my clients feel informed, prepared, and confident throughout that process.

I'm still at the beginning of this journey, and there is a lot for me to learn. But I'm excited to share the journey with you, the lessons, the behind-the-scenes work, and eventually, the experiences of helping others navigate their own real estate journeys.

This is more than a new career for me. It’s an opportunity to turn my own experiences into something that can help others.

And I'm just getting started.
