You don't get to decide who inherits your estate.

Georgia law does.

When someone dies without a valid will—called dying “intestate”—Georgia's intestacy laws determine who is entitled to inherit the estate.

Estate planning gives you the opportunity to make those decisions yourself instead of relying on the state's default plan.

That's a pretty good reason not to keep putting it off.

Many people are surprised to learn that having a will doesn't necessarily mean your family can avoid probate.

Even when everything goes exactly as planned, probate typically takes 6–12 months before assets can be fully distributed. During that time, your loved ones may be waiting on the court to complete the process.

With thoughtful estate planning, many families can avoid probate altogether—saving time, reducing costs, and keeping more of their affairs private. And while DIY solutions or simple beneficiary designations may seem like enough, they don't always work the way people expect.
