Hello Uintah County friends!
I’m back to sharing more of my platform. This week, I want to tell you more about my core philosophy as your next County Attorney: work shoulder-to-shoulder with law enforcement and victims alike to deliver consistent, principled justice.
My approach is straightforward and practical. In cases where the charge is serious and the evidence is rock-solid, I will pursue tough penalties without plea deals.
But justice isn’t always black-and-white. When the evidence isn't quite there, a smart plea can still deliver real accountability rather than letting a criminal walk away scot-free because of a lost trial. At the same time, there’s tremendous value in strategically taking some close cases to trial. Failure teaches powerful lessons. It sharpens skills for prosecutors and law enforcement alike and makes us all more effective over time. While these sometimes competing dynamics need careful balance, no plea should ever feel offensive to victims or officers. If they strongly prefer to push forward, we will listen closely, weigh the input carefully, and decide together what best serves justice.
The key to all of this is open, honest communication. Victims deserve to know exactly why we are adjusting charges or pursuing a plea. It’s easier for them to understand and support our decisions when we’re transparent about the evidence gaps. The same goes for our officers: if there’s a weak spot in a case, let’s talk about it openly so we can seek additional evidence or strengthen future investigations with what we’ve learned.
Bottom line: constant communication is the heartbeat of this role. I will take input seriously, explain decisions clearly, and ensure justice is served with fairness and integrity. These strategic, collaborative decisions will build a better experience for everyone involved and ultimately strengthen justice across Uintah County.
