According to her birth certificate, Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907; however, she gave her birth date as July 7, 1910. As a result of her desire to begin her life with modern Mexico. Frida claimed to have been born in 1910, the year of the Mexican Revolution. She often drew inspiration from painful personal experiences, including her stormy marriage, miscarriages and medical procedures. Many of her self-portraits depicted physical and psychological wounds, according to the Frida Kahlo Foundation. Today, on her chosen date of birth, we honor Frida Kahlo who is a historical female icon!

Today the United States officially celebrates and recognizes Juneteenth. Also known as "Emancipation Day" or "Freedom Day," Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and gave word to enslaved African Americans that they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed enslaved people on January 1, 1863. Today is a day to empower the next generation of changemakers who will continue to revolutionize the movement towards human rights for all, no matter where we come from!
