Thomas More Society Thomas More Society is a not-for-profit, national public interest law firm dedicated to restoring respect in law for life, family, and freedom.

Thomas More Society attorneys handle a wide variety of cases: defending the First Amendment rights of those who pray and offer assistance and counseling to abortion-bound women and men at our nation's abortion facilities; upholding and defending laws that protect human life from conception until natural death; ensuring that religious expression shares an equal place with non-religious expression on America's public squares; and defending marriage as the sacred union of one man and one woman. We address other vital pro-life issues including pregnancy discrimination, end-of-life health care, child support, and the right of conscientious objection for health care workers.

From the courtroom to the banquet hall, Thomas More Society is proud to stand with Voices for Life! 💚

A few weeks ago, our Executive Vice President, Tom Olp, had the honor of speaking at their Speak for the Silent Banquet.

Together, we’ve fought to protect Voices for Life’s right to access Indiana’s abortion records, a key tool for holding the abortion industry accountable to the law. And at the Indiana Supreme Court, Tom and our team represented Voices for Life in pushing back against the ACLU’s attempt to turn religious freedom into a right to abortion.

Thank you, Voices for Life, for your faithful witness. It’s a privilege to fight alongside you!

In Lincoln, Nebraska, a counselor can help a child pursue gender transition. But when a child wants to become comfortable with their biological s*x, the counselor who helps them risks investigation, jail, fines, and even the loss of their license.

Thomas More Society is now suing on behalf of Christian counselors targeted by this ordinance. Our Senior Counsel Matt Heffron put it plainly in his interview with Fox News Digital: “It’s just a confirmation of government viewpoint, government-favored speech over disfavored speech.”

This year the Supreme Court struck down a nearly identical Colorado law in Chiles v. Salazar, and the Eighth Circuit reached a similar conclusion about Kansas City. We repeatedly asked Lincoln to repeal the ordinance or agree not to enforce it. The city chose to stop responding, so we’ll see them in court.

EWTN: ‘Nearly every Catholic health care institution’ in Illinois shielded from su***de law in court order

The Thomas More Society, a legal group representing [Bishop] Paprocki and several others in their lawsuit, announced on Oct. 8 that “nearly every Catholic health care institution in Illinois” had been included in an expanded court order blocking the su***de law from being enforced.

Among the protected entities are the Catholic Medical Association, the Catholic Psychotherapy Association, and numerous Catholic healthcare affiliates in the Diocese of Springfield.

The order is temporary and will last only so long as the lawsuit against the state su***de law plays out, but Thomas More Society litigation head Peter Breen said in a news release that the law firm would “keep fighting until that protection is permanent.”

“Catholic and Christian health care providers, from hospitals and nursing homes to physicians, nurses, and therapists, strive to heal, not harm, and for generations, have cared for the sick and dying in keeping with their faith,” Breen said, arguing that the state has “no right or authority” to coerce them into helping patients kill themselves.

Multiple religious objectors are suing the state over its newly instituted assisted su***de regime.

BREAKING: Illinois’s assisted su***de law would have forced Catholic hospitals, doctors, and nurses to choose between their consciences and their careers.

Now, in our case Mary Keen Kirchoff, M.D., et al. v. Treto, we have secured an expanded federal court order, protecting nearly every Catholic health care institution in Illinois, along with members of major Catholic and Christian medical associations.

“Catholic and Christian health care providers… strive to heal, not harm,” said Peter Breen, our Executive Vice President and Head of Litigation. “Illinois has no right or authority to coerce them into abandoning that mission.”

While this protection is temporary, we will keep fighting until it is permanent.

🏆 Last week, Friends of Aid for Women honored our Founder, Tom Brejcha, with its Praesidium Vitae (Defender of Life) Award.

For decades, Tom has stood in the courtroom for the unborn and for the pregnancy centers and ministries that serve their mothers, defending their freedom to carry on their life-saving work. Few embody that work more faithfully than Aid for Women, which meets women facing unexpected pregnancies with real help and steadfast love. We're grateful for this honor and even more grateful for their ministry.
