After saying goodbye to Scout and Conan, I truly wondered if my heart would ever love another animal quite that hard again.
Turns out, I seriously underestimated Kruger. 🤎🐾
Meet our Kruger Boy — our 8-week-old, 25-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback and the newest little love of our lives.
In just a short time, he has effortlessly found his way into all those tender places in my heart. He is my little Velcro dog and already my best friend. He follows me everywhere, body-slams himself against me before passing out for a puppy nap, and when he’s not glued to my side, you can usually find him lying at Derek’s feet with his head resting right on top of one of them. 🥹
And this boy has PERSONALITY.
He bunny-hops when he plays but struts around like a lion. He sits, fetches, is getting better at recall every day, and is already almost completely potty and crate trained. He watches TV, is fascinated by his reflection and has officially declared himself a Los Angeles Rams fan. 🏈
He has also taken up gardening—although his technique mostly involves eating our plants—and prefers replenishing his fluids directly from the water fountain on our deck. Apparently bowls are beneath him. 😂
And speaking of refined tastes… Kruger is apparently a foodie. Organic ground turkey, wild-caught salmon, free-range eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and carrots are all currently on the menu. Tough life, Kruger.
He has already been introduced to the boat and takes his self-appointed security position VERY seriously, patrolling the deck, gangway and dock every night before bed and again first thing in the morning.
Today he’s our little dock patrolman. Soon he’ll be our fellow adventurer—beach walks, boating, camping, backpacking through the Sierra Nevada Mountains and, when he’s ready, learning to swim right off our dock.
He is equal parts reserved and playful, observant and curious, protective and incredibly snuggly.
I never thought I could love another dog the way I loved Scout—or fill the holes left in my heart after losing Scout and Conan.
Kruger has effortlessly proven me wrong.
Our home feels full again. Our hearts are overflowing. And we thank God for blessing us with the sweetest, calmest, smartest, snuggliest little companion we could have imagined.
Welcome to the family, Kruger Boy. 🤎
We already love you beyond words.
And to all of our friends who walked alongside us when we said goodbye to Scout and Conan… we cannot WAIT for you to meet him. 🐾
Praise God for new chapters, new adventures, and this very special little boy. 🙏🏼🤎
