If you have an aging parent, you don’t have to figure out their entire estate plan at once.

Sometimes, the hardest part is simply knowing where to start.

A will. An advance healthcare directive. A power of attorney.

Depending on your circumstances, these documents can be a practical first step toward getting your affairs in order.

At The Law Shop Alabama, we offer estate planning bundles and work with clients to make the process as straightforward as possible.

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to start planning.

If you’re an aging parent—or you’re helping one prepare for the future—click the link in our bio to schedule a consultation. Let’s talk through your options. 🤎

3 questions to ask your children before it’s too late. And no, this isn’t negotiable.

1. “Is there anything you really want to keep?”
A house, land, heirlooms, a business, family keepsakes—don’t assume you know what matters to them.

2. “Is there anything you definitely DON’T want?”
Sometimes your child may prefer cash, an insurance benefit, or another asset instead of property.

3. “Would you actually want to own the family property/my current home?”
Maybe one child says yes and the other says no. Maybe they both say yes.

Regardless of their answer, each response is to help all parties prepare mentally and financially. The best time to have these conversations is while you can still have them together.

Estate planning isn’t just about who gets what. It’s about what happens after they get it.

If multiple children will inherit the same property, don’t assume that dividing it equally means you’ve created an equitable or workable plan.

Ask the questions now:

• Who actually wants the property?
• Who is likely to maintain it?
• Who lives nearby?
• Who has already invested time or money into it?
• And who would rather receive something else?

Your children may have very different lives, priorities, and relationships with the property.

Those conversations are easier to have while you’re here to have them.

And sometimes the best estate plan isn’t about dividing every asset equally. It’s about looking at the whole picture and creating a plan that makes sense for your family.

If you’re getting ready to create or update your estate plan, let’s talk through your options.

What good is building a successful business if you don’t get to enjoy the skills used to create it? We don’t play that. You’re allowed to benefit from what you’re good at. Sometimes the win is simply getting to enjoy what you’ve created.

Proverbs 31 gives us a woman who produces, invests, and builds. But she also makes things for herself.

Your gifts aren’t only for your clients. Use them to create something that blesses you, too.

Your skills can create more than revenue. They can create community, connection, joy, and opportunity.

Plus, it can sharpen your craft. Using our skills in a whimsical way is still practice.

You matter, too. The business you’re building should make room for the woman building it.

Use your gifts for others. Use them for yourself. Both are acts of stewardship.

What’s one gift or skill you’ve been pouring into everyone else that you could start using for yourself? 👇🏾

Building a business isn’t just about creating something valuable for everyone else.

It’s about building something that supports the life you’re called to live, too.

That’s part of how we think about business at The Law Shop Alabama: build the business and put legal foundations in place. So you can spend more time doing what matters most.

Because your business should create room, not just take up space.

Entrepreneurial women, this is your reminder: you are graced to take care of yourself, too.

Proverbs 31 paints a picture of a woman who is constantly creating, producing, working, buying, selling, investing, and building.

She is productive.

But she isn’t only productive.

In verse 22, we see her making things for herself and clothing herself in fine linen and purple.

That matters to me because it’s easy as an entrepreneur to become so focused on what we’re producing for everyone else that we forget to care for the person doing all the producing.

Your clients need you.
Your business needs you.
Your family may need you.

But you are a person—not just a producer.

And if we’re talking about being graced to create, I also believe there’s grace to steward ourselves while we’re creating.

Five is often associated with grace, and throughout Proverbs 31 we see this woman creating and producing value. But her life isn’t just about what she can make for everyone else.

There’s room for her, too.

So while you’re building, growing, serving, and working hard, don’t forget to take care of yourself along the way.

That’s not selfish.

That’s stewardship.

It’s one thing to make money. It’s another thing to know what to do with it.

In Proverbs 31:16, she “considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.”

That word considers stands out to me.

She evaluates the opportunity before she invests—and then she takes what she has already earned and puts it back to work.

That’s a powerful entrepreneurial principle:

Profit can become a resource for your next opportunity.

Maybe that means reinvesting in your existing business.
Maybe it means acquiring another business.
Maybe it means real estate, another investment, or even a charitable initiative that aligns with your mission.

The strategy is in the evaluation.

What do I have? What opportunity is in front of me? What would create more value? What should I invest in next?

And yes, this is where having the right legal and financial advisors matters. Your attorney and CPA can help you think through the structure, risks, and implications before you make the move.

Because building wealth isn’t just about earning more.

It’s about being strategic with what you earn.
