Our Thurston County Senior Action Network just posted this SCAM warning:

SCAM involving Area Agency on Aging
Recently there has been someone in this area calling clients and stating he is from the Area Agency on Aging and will help them get benefits. He asks for personal information as well as bank or credit union account numbers. Please let your clients know this is not true. No government agency will ever ask that information on a cold call.

A DSHS worker was notified this morning that a client she is currently case managing received a call over the weekend by a man claiming to work for the Area Agency on Aging and requesting income and bank account information in order to set up services for her. Unfortunately her client did give her bank account information to the caller. She has instructed the client and her daughter to contact their bank immediately.

The caller stated his name was James and the phone number (1 806 966-6828) he gave is not in service.
