Today I got to fight for the constitutional rights of two of my clients in federal court who, l argued, were unlawfully detained by ICE.

The federal judge agreed.

One, a father of U.S. citizen children who has lived here since childhood. The other, a young Cuban woman who lawfully presented at the border, was inspected and paroled into the U.S., followed the rules, and pursued residency under the Cuban Adjustment Act.

Both ordered released within 48 hours. Two clients. Two unlawful detentions. Two people going home.

Amazing things happen when you understand and uphold the Constitution. 😭🇺🇸

My client Daniel’s story highlights what is happening across Oklahoma every day. He was simply driving to work when a state trooper stopped him…and within minutes, ICE was there.

Oklahoma has deputized every state trooper to enforce federal immigration law, turning ordinary traffic stops into immigration arrests.

Increasingly, this is exactly how most of my clients end up detained. Daniel has now spent EIGHT MONTHS in detention, separated from his wife and family, while we continue fighting his case.

After a battle in federal court I just got bond granted for a father who’s lived here since childhood with a U.S. citizen spouse and six U.S. citizen children. He’s been detained for SIX MONTHS.

Almost cried during the judge’s decision but I had to hold it in…can’t let them catch me slippin. 🥲

I’m so thankful him and his wife remained patient and trusted me throughout this incredibly long process.

These are my favorite days. 🎉🥳

A single mother of a young son with a medical condition that requires treatment in the United States. Lenny Romero Rodriguez fled Venezuela and was paroled into our country in September 2020 so she could seek asylum.

Now she’s being detained in Tulsa for no reason other than her immigration status. ICE plans to move her to Texas tomorrow where she will be subject to mandatory detention while she fights in court to stay in this country with her son.

Please spread the word. Maybe ICE will show some compassion and release this mother on the same humanitarian parole that she’s already proven she will abide by.

Called a detention facility to speak with an ICE officer and I hear “Ugh it’s Melissa Henry again..” followed by collective groans in the background.

That’s one of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received. If I’m not giving ICE a headache, then I’m not doing my job. 😎😂
