📰 Tax Court motion practice is about to become more public. Tax Court Administrative Order No. 2026-02 expands remote public access through DAWSON for certain motion papers. This is a transparency development AND đŸš© a risk-management reminder. đŸš©

Beginning with motions filed on or after January 1, 2027, the Tax Court will make the following electronically filed documents remotely available to the public through DAWSON when filed by practitioners admitted to practice before the Court:

🟡 Motions
🍿 Supporting briefs or memoranda
🟡 Oppositions to those motions

Motions filed before January 1, 2027, will remain available through the existing channels—records requests or the public terminal at the courthouse.

🚹 The practical takeaway: assume your motion practice may be publicly viewable.

The IRS is phasing out First Time Abate (FTA) and introducing the Automatic Exemption from Penalty (AEP) program, a shift designed to automatically provide penalty relief to eligible taxpayers with a clean compliance history.
