This week, my wheelchair tilted backward at a steep curb-ramp transition.

The ramp was there. I still couldn’t use it safely.

That’s why SAID documents what happens when access fails in practice.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

—Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The freedom to move through our communities should never depend on whether we walk, use a wheelchair, rely on public transportation, or need assistance.

When sidewalks are impassable, transportation is inaccessible, entrances exclude us, or emergency routes fail us, mobility is denied—and so is participation.

These are not minor inconveniences. They affect whether people can work, receive healthcare, attend school, see their families, and take part in community life.

A society cannot claim justice while restricting the movement and independence of disabled people.

Mobility is a right—not a privilege.

“You cannot participate in society if you cannot physically access it.”

— Carmen Lucia Gonzalez, Founder of SAID

Accessibility cannot be measured by whether a ramp, doorway, sidewalk, or service merely exists. It must be measured by whether people can actually use it to enter, move safely, contribute, and belong.

SAID identifies the patterns behind physical barriers because exclusion is rarely an isolated incident—it is a systemic outcome.

Encountered an accessibility barrier? Don’t let it remain an isolated incident.

Report it to SAID. Your experience becomes part of the data we use to identify repeated patterns and support policy change.

SAID transforms barrier reports into actionable data that identifies systemic accessibility failures, reveals recurring patterns, and supports meaningful policy change.

09/02/2026

A barrier that happens repeatedly is not an isolated inconvenience—it is evidence of a systemic failure.

In SAID’s preliminary findings:

📊 66.7% of reports described repeat barriers
🚫 41.7% resulted in complete exclusion
⚠️ 33.3% caused severe impact

These reports show why accessibility cannot be measured only by whether a feature exists. It must be measured by whether people can actually participate.

SAID transforms individual experiences into collective evidence—because patterns give communities and policymakers something they can act on.

We identify patterns. We drive policy change.
