As we get closer to this year's Elder Advocacy Boot Camp, we'd like to hear from the professionals we created it for.

When you're serving older adults and their families, you encounter questions that don't always fit neatly within your own area of expertise. That's one reason we've intentionally brought together experts from dementia care, geriatric mental health, elder law, ALTCS, and end-of-life support for this year's Boot Camp.

Loneliness in an older adult doesn't always look like someone saying, "I'm lonely." It may show up as withdrawal, a loss of interest in usual activities, fewer social connections, or changes that cause family members to wonder what is really going on.

For professionals serving older adults and their families, recognizing the impact of loneliness and social isolation can be an important part of seeing the bigger picture. It also raises an important question: once we recognize it, how can we help?

At the Elder Advocacy Boot Camp, board-certified Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist Dr. Jasmine Singh will explore the impact of loneliness and social isolation on aging and share actionable strategies for strengthening resilience in older populations.

Many people are familiar with the support a birth doula provides, but the role of an End-of-Life Doula may be less familiar.

An End-of-Life Doula provides non-medical support to individuals and families before, during, and after a death. Their role is different from the care provided by medical, legal, and spiritual professionals, but understanding how those roles can complement one another gives advocates another resource to consider when supporting a family.

At this year's Elder Advocacy Boot Camp, Certified End-of-Life Doula and Creative Grief Support Specialist Carly Flagg will help attendees better understand what doula support can look like and how to recognize when it may benefit an individual or family.
