Healthy With Harvey
Would you like a fun, easy way to teach the children in your life about healthy habits and make them less fearful of experiences such as going to the doctor or visiting a hospital Emergency Department? Healthy With Harvey is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing children with age appropriate, science-based information and tools to help children grow up healthy, confident and safe. Harvey is a friendly, lovable dog who shares information about health care and healthy habits from the perspective of a child. Parents, grandparents, and teachers can visit healthywithharvey.org to download free short stories about a variety of health-related topics. Each short story only takes a few minutes to read aloud and ends with optional questions to foster discussion about the story’s lesson. Each story focuses on a specific health-related topic such as going to the doctor, breaking a leg, or eating healthy foods. The colorful illustrations for each story feature Harvey and his animal friends and reinforce the story’s lesson.

Healthy With Harvey is a labor of love created by Susan K. Laird and David C. Laird. Their own dog Harvey provided the inspiration for the fictional Harvey. Susan holds a doctorate in nursing, is a Board-Certified Patient Advocate, and has extensive experience in public health communication. She is responsible for content creation and outreach. David holds master’s degrees in Computer Information Science and Health Administration and is responsible for keeping Healthy With Harvey accessible, reliable and technologically sound.
