Most people picture a certain kind of client when they hear 'criminal defense.' More often, it's someone who's never sat across from a lawyer before: one bad night, an escalated workplace investigation, a professional license on the line. Hacker Murphy, LLP’s team works both ends of that range: state, federal, misdemeanor to white-collar. The common thread isn't the charge; it's that almost nobody expects to need this until they do.

Our attorneys enjoyed a great evening last week at the Legal Aid Society of NENY 2026 Justice for All Awards! We are so proud to celebrate our firm’s Senior Counsel and Past President of LASNNY, James Hacker, who received this year’s Justice for All Award.

The Justice for All Award recognizes exceptional commitment to LASNNY’s mission through pro bono service, volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy, technical assistance, legal education, and philanthropic support.

As this year’s presenting sponsor, Hacker Murphy proudly supports LASNNY’s continued commitment to providing free civil legal aid and advancing access to justice across Northeastern New York.

Congratulations to Jim on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to LASNNY for the important work it does every day!

This year's NFPA Fire Prevention Week campaign focuses on everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires. A few safety tips: charge on a hard flat surface, never on a bed or couch; only use the charge that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer; unplug devices once fully charged; and stop using any battery that swells, smokes, or overheats.

Safe charging habits can reduce the risk of fire, but not every fire is simply the result of user error. Defective batteries or chargers, unsafe electrical conditions, or blocked exits may raise liability questions that our team can help answer.

Our partner Julie Nociolo spent a few days in Lake Placid this month at the NDNY's judicial retreat, where she serves as a Trustee with the Federal Court Bar Association.

Good company, better views, and a lot of shop talk with the people who make the federal courts run.
