I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW….
In addition to practicing law and serving on the Liquor Board, I am a mediator who was certified in both general and family law.
Starting as a volunteer, I began mediating cases for the courts in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Mediating can be a gentler approach to resolving conflict, placing the resolution of the case in the hands of the litigants. A good mediator can help the parties diffuse situations in ways not previously contemplated.
After volunteering, I brought the program to Baltimore County. I recruited 54 mediators, established the pro bono mediation program, introduced it to the bench and kept the statistics for the first few years. I was honored to receive an award from the Alternative Dispute Resolution division of the Maryland Bar Association for my efforts. I am proud of that award!
Today I was part of a team representing an injured party who sustained an unimaginable loss. The case was complex, with enough parties to overflow 7 conference rooms. As I watched the mediator run from room to room, I couldn’t help but be thankful to be a party! Whatever he was paid today, it wasn’t enough!!
