What does a county commissioner actually do?
Think of a county commissioner as your area’s manager for the county.
This person helps decide which roads get fixed first, where new turn lanes or traffic lights go, and how drainage and ditches are maintained in county areas.
They also help decide the county budget—how much money goes to public safety, parks, health programs, and other basic services.
The commissioner doesn’t work alone. They sit on something called ‘commissioners court’ with the other commissioners and the county judge. That group is like the county’s board of directors—they vote on big decisions that affect all of us.
So when you are stuck in traffic, worried about flooding, or wondering where your tax dollars go, your county commissioner is one of the people making those calls

▪️On your voter card or ballot, you probably see something like ‘Fort Bend County – Precinct 1, 2, 3 4’ and think…what does that even mean?
▪️A precinct is just a section of the county, like a big neighbourhood on the map with clear boundary lines.
▪️Fort Bend County is divided into four of these big areas, called commissioner precincts, and each one chooses its own local leader called a county commissioner.
▪️If you live in Precinct 4, that means there is one specific commissioner whose job is to speak up for your side of the county when decisions are being made.
