April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Join Walker County DFCS at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25th, as they plant pinwheels in front of their building on Highway 27 to symbolize the children who have been abused and neglected in our community.

Happy Halloween! If you'll be out driving tonight, please slow down and be extra alert. Children are excited on Halloween and may dart into the road. Statistics show children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a vehicle on Halloween than on any other night of the year.

Here are a few safety tips for pedestrians from the Georgia Department of Public Health to share with your little ghosts and goblins:

-Caution children against running out from between parked cars, or across yards where obstacles may be hard to spot
-Stick to walking areas that are well-lit and free of obstacles
-Carry a flashlight or glow stick to see and be seen
-Never walk near lit candles, luminaries or pumpkins
-Avoid distractions from electronic devices
-Young children should be accompanied by an adult or an older, responsible child

On Sunday, May 22, more than 3,500 athletes will visit the Chattanooga area and Walker County to test their physical and mental limits. Throughout the day, they will race throughout your community as they complete a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run in succession. We ask for your cooperation and understanding on race day as you travel around these areas. The routes were chosen to highlight various areas that fully showcase the unique setting of Chattanooga and North Georgia.
