It’s a common myth that you have to leave someone “one dollar” in your will to disinherit them. In reality, doing so can actually create confusion or even spark avoidable legal challenges.

A much better approach is to clearly state your intent and structure your estate plan so your wishes are unmistakable and legally sound.

If you’re unsure how to handle a sensitive situation like this, we’re here to help. As a long‑standing Tempe law firm focused on estate planning and probate, we can guide you through the process and make sure your plan protects what matters most.

Give us a call at (480) 345‑8100 to get started.

Estate planning isn’t just about what happens after you’re gone — it’s also about making sure your wishes are honored while you’re still here. One of the most overlooked parts of a solid estate plan is preparing for the possibility of incapacity.

With the right documents in place — like a health care directive and a medical power of attorney — you can ensure that the people you trust are empowered to make decisions that reflect your values if a medical crisis arises.

At the Law Offices of Douglas B. Price in Tempe, we’re here to help you create or update a plan that truly protects you and your loved ones. Whether you’re starting fresh or fine‑tuning your existing documents, give us a call. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

A common misconception we see in estate planning is the belief that creating a trust automatically protects your assets. In reality, a trust only works when it’s properly funded — meaning your assets must be transferred into the trust. If they aren’t, those assets may still end up going through probate.

If you're thinking about setting up a trust or want to make sure your existing one is fully funded and effective, we’re here to help. Give us a call at (480) 345-8100, and we’ll find a time to connect. Your peace of mind matters to us.

Life can change in an instant — which is why having the right person empowered to make decisions for you is so important. A power of attorney (POA) lets you choose someone you trust to handle your financial, medical, or personal matters if you ever can’t.

Different types of POA serve different needs, and choosing the right one helps ensure your wishes are protected and your voice is honored.

If you’re in Tempe or the surrounding areas and want guidance from an experienced estate planning attorney, we’re here to help. Call us to get started with a plan that gives you peace of mind.

The start of a new year brings a fresh perspective — making it the perfect time to revisit your power of attorney (POA).

As a reminder, a POA is a simple legal document that allows someone you trust to make financial decisions on your behalf if you’re unable to.

If your life changed in 2025, whether from marriage, divorce, new family members, or health shifts, you should think about revisiting who you want to handle important matters if you’re unable to.

For assistance starting or reviewing your POA document or other estate planning documents, give us a call. We’re here to help ensure your wishes are protected and your family’s future secured.

New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate, but it’s also one of the most dangerous nights of the year for crashes and injuries. Whether you're heading out or hosting at home, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind before the ball drops:

🔵Plan Ahead - Arrange your transportation early. Whether it's a designated driver, rideshare, or public transit, having a safe way home is paramount.

🔵Pace Yourself - If you're drinking, know your limits. Alternate alcoholic beverages with water and never leave your drink unattended.

🔵Be Firework-Smart - Leave the pyrotechnics to professionals. Fireworks, even handheld sparklers, can cause serious injuries, especially to children and pets.

🔵Watch Your Step - Icy sidewalks, dim lighting, and crowded venues can be a recipe for slip-and-fall incidents. Wear appropriate footwear and stay alert.

🔵Avoid Celebratory Gunfire - Firing weapons into the air is not only illegal — it’s deadly. Celebrate safely and responsibly.

🔵Host Responsibly - If you're throwing a party, offer non-alcoholic drink options, serve plenty of food, and make arrangements for guests to get home safely. Remember, you could be held legally responsible if someone leaves your party and injures others.

Your safety and well-being matter, and we hope you have a safe and celebratory New Year’s Eve. But in the event you need us, please know we’re here for you.
