Legal consequences aren’t one crime fits all. When it comes to sentencing, judges take certain factors into account.
⚖️ Mitigating factors: details of the case that the judge considers in a more sympathetic light when passing down a sentence. If it’s their first offense, or they’re young, coerced into the crime, and other similar factors can result in a lighter sentence.
🏛️ Aggravating factors: details of the case that the judge considers in a more critical light when passing down a sentence. If someone is a repeat offender, was using others as accomplices, or even using body armor can all be considered reasons to pass down a harsher sentence.
