RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WEEK
By Dr. Ida Pennella, PhD

The First Amendment to the Constitution states
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...”
At a time when religions are attacked in the US it’s important to value Religious Freedom Week, June 22-29. Take a few minutes to promote our rights through prayer and action.
The institution of this week-long observance was established by the US Catholic Bishops because “Catholic teaching on religious liberty is rooted in the dignity of the human person.” Their article showed the lack of religious freedom; “In Arkansas, a Muslim man had to fight in court to grow a half-inch beard. Similarly, Jewish prisoners in some states have struggled to be permitted to receive kosher meals. Recently, a Muslim man in Alabama [Dominque Ray] could not have his imam present with him when he was executed [Feb. 7, 2019]. Source: usccb.org.
Christians and other religious communities contribute to the dignity of the human person.
Social and communal activities that most religions have in common include but are not limited to:
• Food banks supplying free food
• Homeless shelters
• Feed and clothe the poor
• Drug addiction support systems

SCOTUS upholds abortion restriction!

The Supreme Court today upheld an Indiana law prohibiting abortionists from disposing of aborted babies as medical waste. The law requires aborted babies to be treated with "humane dignity."

Aborted babies and body parts stored in Kermit Gosnell's freezer.

Planned Parenthood successfully sued to stop implementation of the law shortly after it was passed, alleging due process and equal protection violations. PP was afraid that the requirement to treat aborted babies with dignity meant courts will find that "human life begins at conception and that a fetus is a human being." Of course, this is precisely why this law is so important—it sends a clear message that preborn children are deserving of the same humane treatment as other persons.

The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals permanently enjoined (blocked) the statute, saying that states have no interest in the manner in which aborted babies are disposed of since there is “no potential life at stake.”

Today the Supreme Court reversed that ruling, holding that states do have a legitimate interest in the proper disposal of fetal remains and that the statute is rationally related to that interest.

Life Legal filed an amicus or “friend of the Court” brief with the Supreme Court last year, arguing that states also have an interest in protecting the integrity and ethics of the medical profession. Abortionists are professional killers who terminate the lives of preborn children day in and day out. They are hardened to the inherent worth of each human life. They literally treat human beings like trash.

The Kermit Gosnell case shed light on the horrific way unborn babies targeted for abortion are treated. Gosnell cut off the feet of babies he aborted and stored them in jars. He stuffed whole bodies of aborted babies—some well into the third trimester—in juice containers and milk jugs. He stored babies and body parts in his freezer. These barbaric practices will now be prohibited in Indiana and other states with similar laws.

We filed our brief on behalf of Dr. Beverly McMillan, a former abortion provider who opened the first abortion facility in Mississippi. Dr. McMillan stopped doing abortions after she realized that the baby body parts she had viewed as trash belonged to human beings.

Life Legal is currently working with pro-life teams to close the last remaining abortion mill in Mississippi.

We urgently need your support as we fight to protect unborn life in the courtroom and the public square. Please consider making a generous donation of $25, $50, or $100 today.

The Indiana law cited above has another provision that prohibits abortions solely based on a child's s*x, race, or disability. The Supreme Court declined—for the time being—to review that provision because it is waiting for decisions from states with similar laws. In a concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that he agreed with the Court’s decision to decline review, but recognized, "Given the potential for abortion to become a tool of eugenic manipulation, the Court will soon need to confront the constitutionality of laws like Indiana’s."

Justice Thomas' lengthy opinion lays the foundation for the Supreme Court to uphold laws that ban s*x, race or disability discrimination abortions. He cited New York City, where more black babies are aborted than are born alive, as an example of Planned Parenthood’s eugenic aims. Thomas included quotes from PP founder Margaret Sanger and former PP President Alan Guttmacher, who "endorsed abortion for eugenic reasons and promoted it as a means of controlling the population and improving its quality." Justice Thomas also noted the prevalence of s*x-selection abortions in Asia as well as Iceland's near 100% abortion rate of babies with Down's syndrome.

Have you ever wondered what your family would need to do to get their hands on everything you’ve left them if something happened to you tomorrow? How do they obtain title to your real estate and access to your bank accounts? What about your stock portfolio and your business interests?

In this article, you will find out that your family will not have automatic access to your things. They’ll need to go through the probate court to collect them.

You’ll also learn how expensive probate costs.

It’s a privilege to leave a lasting legacy and to pass on as much of your wealth to your loved ones as possible. So take advantage of it and be proactive while you’re still alive and well.

What Is Probate?
If your assets are worth more than $150,000, your family will likely need to go through the probate court to collect your things if you didn’t put a plan in place to avoid probate. Your family must prove to the probate judge that they are entitled to the things you left behind (defined as your “estate” and “assets” in legal terms) and California law will dictate how your assets are distributed among your family.

Your family will need to hire a probate attorney and the court will appoint a personal representative to handle the probate proceedings. The fees for probate attorneys and personal representatives are set by law, and they are very expensive!

The entire probate process can take a year or even two years if your family fights over who should get what. So rather than taking the time to grieve and move on, your family will be stuck in court sorting out the uncertainty that you left behind.

Protect your assets and make sure your family will be taken care of!
