⚠️Just wanted to share a little perspective as a landlord. I see posts and comments all the time about landlords charging too much rent, being greedy, making loads of money, and taking advantage of their tenants. People often act like being a landlord is easy money and landlords are rolling in extra money. But what you rarely see people talk about are the expenses, the risks, and the reality behind owning rental property.
Let’s talk about the other side of the story.
🏡 Property taxes with zero deductions or exemptions.
🔨 Maintenance, continued repairs, and unexpected expenses.
🏠 Property insurance Commerical rates that continue to increase.
💡 Commercial utility rates that landlords can be stuck paying.
💰 The cost of maintaining a property and keeping it safe and livable and rentable.
And then there’s the part nobody wants to talk about… the condition some tenants leave a property in when they move out. The damage, the filth, the cleanup, and the thousands of dollars it can take just to get the property back into rentable condition.
The home in this video was completely remodeled. New kitchen. Two New bathrooms. All new paint. All New flooring. Now, look at what can happened to an investment someone had worked hard to own and maintain. And before anyone says we should have screened a tenant…. This mess was by a DOCTOR! (Who left town without a forwarding address to recoup the damage fees).
No, not every landlord is perfect, and not every tenant is a problem. But the assumption that landlords are all greedy people making easy money is simply unfair and not correct.
Rental property is an investment, but it’s also a responsibility, a financial risk, and a business with real expenses.
Before assuming a landlord is charging too much or making a fortune, remember there’s a whole lot more to the story than the monthly rent payment.
