Help Wanted! Please read the following job description and apply with our office (mailing address of P.O. Box 718, Tazewell, Virginia) if you feel this is the job for you!

The Commissioner of Accounts, Office Director, acts as an extension of the Circuit Court of Tazewell County where fiduciaries of estates, trusts, or conservatorships file their accounts. Our office oversees that the fiduciaries properly prepare and file required documents, and we provide assistance with that preparation when circumstances require it. F. Bradley Pyott, Esq., is the Commissioner of Accounts. He provides legal insight to fiduciaries within limits as Commissioner and directs the fiduciaries to carry out the requirements of the Will, the Trust documents, or Conservatorship court orders, and the Office Director assists in that provision.

The Office Director will work with fiduciaries in person on a regular basis, answering questions of the clients by telephone or appointment, and occasionally assisting with the preparation and auditing of both inventories and accountings. The Office Director will also perform secretarial duties such as setting up files, preparing correspondence, scheduling appointments, and managing intra-office checking accounts, cash, and bank deposits for the Commissioner. Our Office Director must be able to self manage, have a willingness and readiness to multi-task, and have the capacity to problem solve outside of the box when necessary.

We are also accepting applications for a part-time position (15-20 hours/week) of Account Auditor, which position oversees and reviews the “mathematical” accuracy and supporting documentation for each accounting filed by executors, trustees, and/or conservators. Accounting and/or bookkeeping experience is a plus.

Salary for both positions depends on experience; Office Director eligible for health insurance, sick leave, and 401(k) participation benefits.

Did you know that your right to a speedy trial does not start until after there has been a finding of probable cause? The finding of probable cause occurs either at a preliminary hearing or by way of a direct indictment. Once that occurs, a trial has to be started (unless there is an agreement) within five months if you are held in custody, or nine months if you are not held in custody.
