Today served as an excellent reminder of the importance of reading pleadings and familiarizing yourself with exhibits. Case dismissed because my client's attorney read and understood the pleadings better than anyone else on the case.

Though things are looking up for the state of the law controlling injuries from snow and ice in Michigan, the current state of the law treats snow and ice as open and obvious with few exceptions. Be extra careful today, we don't want to see anybody hurt regardless of whether they'd have a valid claim for their injuries.

Please stay safe if you're out there in the icy conditions. Remember, in Michigan, accumulations of snow and ice are considered open and obvious. Businesses have no duty to protect you or warn you of the hazard.

If you can't stay home today, be extremely cautious please. Especially at businesses that owe no duty to clear open and obvious simulations of snow and ice. Again, be careful and follow the Supreme Court's advice and go elsewhere if the place you're visiting is icy.

Just a friendly reminder to be careful on these cold icy days. The Michigan Supreme Court has ruled that businesses owe you no duty to protect you from snow and ice on their premises. To explain this ruling, they stated that if you go to a business in the winter in Michigan and it is covered in ice, you can continue on until you find a business that keeps their premises safe or assume the risk that you might be injured at the icy business.
