My client, a Colonel and Retired Army Ranger, was riding his bicycle early in the morning when he was struck by a car and run over. The driver fled. Moments later, a second car approached and a witness ran with his arms up, attempting to stop it, but the car ran over my client for the second time. He also fled the scene.
My client was taken to Tampa General Hospital with massive injuries that were expected to be fatal. The photographs I reviewed from TGH were the most shocking and gruesome photographs I have ever seen. He was placed on life support, and his condition was so grave that the doctors counseled his wife that she should authorize the removal of life support. She declined, and a few days later, my client showed faint signs of improvement, which began his incredible 2-year journey through two hospitals and one rehabilitation facility to make a miraculous recovery.
Scarritt Law Group immediately took action, investigating the accident scene and dispatching an investigator who found an eye witness who explained how the accident took place. The medical bills ultimately totaled over $3.4 million. Our clients had been offered a very modest sum to settle the case in its entirety.
We continued to establish the facts surrounding the accident and the catastrophic damages to our clients. After lengthy negotiations, we were able to quintuple the settlement offer.
The first driver was eventually apprehended. Scarritt Law Group participated in the criminal trial, which resulted in a conviction. Our clients were threatened with financial catastrophe because of the medical bills. The Scarritt Law Group team navigated the Department of Veterans Affairs, United States Justice Department, and the Department of the Army, successfully convincing each of these organizations to waive the ENTIRE AMOUNT of the medical bill liens.
My client’s recovery has been nothing less than amazing. Through incredibly hard work, he has learned to walk again, to talk again, and to think again. I was astounded to learn that he was jogging two miles a day.
