Her claim was denied. She didn’t stop there. An Orange County homeowner’s water damage claim was turned down flat by her insurance company. She brought the case to us — it settled for $149,000. A denial isn’t the final answer. If yours was turned down too, let’s see what’s actually owed.

Hurricane Helene is behind us, but for a lot of homeowners, the fight for a fair payout isn't. One Orange County homeowner got an insurance offer that didn't come close to covering the damage. We took the case. It settled for $150,000. If Helene hit your home and the check felt short, there's still time to push back.

Another 5-Star Review!

“The staff was excellent throughout the entire process. They explained everything to me very clearly. They answered all of my questions without making me feel like I was a bother. They kept me well informed. They got more money than the Insurance Company offered. I would highly recommend them and would call them again if needed.”

Here's how it usually goes: a pipe breaks under the sink, water spreads through the cabinets, and the homeowner files a claim expecting the insurance company to move fast.

Then — silence. Weeks go by. Finally, a number comes back, and it's not close to enough.

That's what happened to a Brevard County homeowner. We stepped in, and the claim closed for $160,000.

If your claim has been sitting for weeks, or the number you got back doesn't cover the damage, that's worth a conversation.

Hurricane Isaias is now a major hurricane, and landfall is expected tonight or early Saturday along the Florida Panhandle. 🌀

As of 8:20 AM ET, the National Hurricane Center has a Hurricane Warning in effect from Ocean Springs, MS to the Bay/Gulf County line, FL. It warns of life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds, heavy rain, and possible tornadoes.
Your safety comes first. Follow evacuation orders from local officials.

When it is safe to do so, photograph visible damage, protect the property from further damage where reasonably possible, save receipts, and keep copies of communications with your insurance company.

Questions about your property insurance claim? Call Kuhn Raslavich, P.A. at (877) 352-7767 or visit www.theKRfirm.com. Se habla español.

A lot of hurricane claims stall on one form. The proof of loss, buried somewhere between the blue tarps and the generator lines.

In North Carolina, standard fire policies give you 60 days from the date of loss to submit that sworn statement, unless the insurer agrees in writing to more time. Florida doesn't set that deadline by statute; it's written into your policy instead, often around 60 days, though hurricane emergency orders can extend the window in either state.

What we see most often is the proof of loss treated like just another form in the stack, when it actually decides whether the rest of the claim gets paid in full. Miss it, and the insurer can point to the gap, though they may still have to show the delay actually hurt them.

Before that window closes on your claim, call us: 877-352-7767.

09/28/2026

The letter says 'denied,' and a lot of homeowners stop reading right there. That's usually the moment a case gets decided, not by the insurer's word, but by whether anyone requests a reinspection or pulls the appraisal clause out of the policy.

Appraisal kicks in when the argument is about how much the loss is worth, not whether it's covered. Either side can generally demand it, subject to any policy specific conditions. Each side picks an appraiser within twenty days, the two appraisers pick an umpire, and any two of the three sign off on the final number.

What we see most often is the reinspection request getting skipped, even when new damage turns up that the first estimate missed. That request doesn't pause Florida's five-year deadline to sue, so timing still matters while you push back.

Save our number before you respond to that denial letter: 877-352-7767.
