Did you know that if you are arrested and charged with a DUI that there are two separate legal proceedings that begin?

The first is your criminal case, handled by the courts in Hillsborough County. The second is an administrative case handled by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV). The DHSMV case decides your license. The court case decides your criminal record. These two cases move on different timelines, and a result in one does not decide the other. Your license can be suspended even if your criminal charge is later reduced or dropped.

On top of this, there is a critical 10-day period where you and your attorney must challenge the suspension of your license with the DHSMV or it could become automatic and there is no reversing it. 10 days only.

🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY: SLOW DOWN. STOP. PROTECT OUR KIDS.

As another school year gets underway, more school buses—and more children—will be sharing our roads. As drivers, we all have a responsibility to know the rules and stay alert.

🚍 When a school bus stops with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended:
• STOP and remain stopped.
• Do not pass the bus until the lights stop flashing and the stop arm is withdrawn.
• Be especially alert for children crossing the road or walking near the bus.
• Never try to “beat” a school bus or pass when you’re unsure whether you’re required to stop.
• Remember that traffic in both directions generally must stop on a road that does not have a physical median separating the lanes.

Know the law. Put the phone down. Slow down. And give our children the protection they deserve.

A new school year also means more activity on our roads—school buses, carpool lines, bicyclists, pedestrians, and young drivers will all be sharing the road.

🚗 Drivers: Slow down in school zones, stay alert, put the phone away, and always watch carefully for children and crossing pedestrians.
