Just arrested in Hillsborough County? Here's what happens next.
Most people have no idea what happens after an arrest in Tampa or Hillsborough County until they're living it, or a family member is. This 2-minute video walks through it step by step:
▪️ Booking at the Orient Road Jail, the Sheriff's central booking facility for more than 27 law enforcement agencies
▪️ Whether bond is already set. Warrants often list a bond amount, and many charges have a preset bond under Florida's uniform bond schedule. Others have to wait for a judge.
▪️ First appearance within 24 hours. Defendants appear by video from the jail before a judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney, every day including weekends and holidays.
▪️ Posting bond, cash or through a bail bond agent, and what to expect while the jail processes the release
▪️ Bond hearings, when bond is too high or wasn't set
▪️ What comes next: the charging decision, arraignment, and following every release condition
Bond, release conditions, what you say, and what gets filed are often decided in the first days of a case. Attorney Ron Frey generally advises talking to a lawyer before answering questions or making decisions. Every case is different.
