💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This year, I didn’t want to simply post a pretty purple ribbon and a random hotline number. I wanted to do something a little more meaningful.
So, I personally called the Florida Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-500-1119 to find out exactly what resources are available to someone experiencing domestic violence.
I spoke with the sweetest, most informative representative, who took the time to explain the many ways they can help.
And let me tell you, I was genuinely surprised and impressed by how much assistance is available!
When you reach out, you’re not just getting a phone number or being handed another list of places to call. You’re connecting with a real person who understands these situations and can help you explore your options.
Here are just some of the resources she shared with me:
💜 Injunction Assistance – Help navigating the process of obtaining an injunction for protection. This is a service we don’t offer at Divorce Horse, but they can help connect you with the assistance you need.
💜 Personalized Safety Planning – This one particularly impressed me! She explained how they help develop a safety plan tailored to your individual circumstances, including ways to prepare for leaving an unsafe relationship as safely as possible.
💜 Shelter Assistance – Help locating an appropriate domestic violence shelter based on your needs and situation.
💜 Free Legal Advice – Assistance connecting with an attorney who can provide free legal guidance.
💜 Counseling Resources – Help finding counseling and emotional support services.
💜 24/7 Support – Someone is available around the clock to listen, answer questions, and help you understand your options.
One of the biggest things I took away from this conversation is that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you reach out.
You don’t have to know where you’re going, how you’re going to leave, or even whether you’re ready to leave.
You can simply start with a conversation.
