My roots in Tampa are deep. I was born and raised here, and my family has lived here for more than 100 years. My grandfather helped establish Ybor City and was among its first residents.

I’ve always had a strong connection with this area, and it’s why after law school in Boston, I knew there was nowhere else I wanted to be.

Robotaxis and Waymos have arrived in Tampa.

Autonomous, self-driving cars are on the roads, and whether you plan to ride in them or not, you need to know what to do if you end up in an accident with one.

1) Call the cops, as you would in any accident.

2) Seek medical help if you or others need it.

Now, this is the important one. ➡️ 3) Document everything.

Since there is no driver to exchange information with, you need to gather as much evidence as you can. Take photos. Document times, locations, and your account of what happened. Get contact information from all witnesses.

4) Contact the operating company.

You have rights if you're involved in an accident with a driverless vehicle. Whether you were a passenger or injured by one, you can file an insurance claim with Waymo or Robotaxi.

❌I recommend not contacting the companies until you have talked to an attorney.

Companies are always going to try to pay out as little as possible. Make sure you are prepared and know what you need to do to protect yourself and get what you deserve.

It will probably come as a surprise, but your AI meeting notetaker could put you in legal hot water.

Many people don’t realize that recording someone without their permission is illegal in Florida. If you use an AI notetaker to record a call and provide a recap of the conversation, you could be breaking the law.

Recording someone without their permission in Florida is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

Thankfully, there is a simple way to avoid breaking this law.

Tell people on the call they are being recorded. If they don’t want to be recorded, turn off the recorder. It’s as easy as that.

Unfortunately, hit-and-run accidents are all too common in the Tampa Bay area.

In Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in 2025, there were a collective 9,690 hit and runs, according to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles data.

Hit-and-runs can leave victims dealing with medical bills, missed work, vehicle damage, and injuries without knowing who caused the crash.

But just because the other driver fled doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of options.

A personal injury attorney can help investigate what happened, look for surveillance or traffic-camera footage, identify witnesses, work with law enforcement information, and determine whether there are other sources of insurance coverage available.

That can include looking at your own uninsured motorist coverage, which may provide compensation when the at-fault driver can’t be identified or doesn’t have insurance.

If you’re involved in a hit-and-run:

1. Call the police and report the crash.
2. Get medical attention if you’re injured.
3. Take photos and collect witness information if you can.

Since minors have important legal rights, it’s helpful to know what those rights are and how they may apply. Here are a few key points we encourage families to keep in mind:

🔹Police contact does not mean a case will automatically go to court. Depending on the situation, law enforcement may issue a warning, release the child to a parent or guardian, or refer the matter to juvenile court. Officers often have some discretion, especially for lower-level allegations.

🔹Parents or guardians should be notified when a child is taken into custody. Procedures vary by state, but in many cases, law enforcement must make an effort to contact a parent or guardian. A child may also have the right to make a phone call to a parent, guardian, or attorney, but should be aware that those calls are recorded.

No two juvenile cases are exactly alike, and state laws can play a major role in how these matters are handled. Getting legal guidance early can make a meaningful difference in protecting a child’s rights and helping the family understand what comes next.
