The ADR Section of The Florida Bar is the place for lawyers interested in alternative dispute resolu

The ADR Section provides a forum for lawyers interested in alternative dispute resolution and for discussion and exchange of ideas leading to an improvement of individual ADR skills and abilities.The ADR Section will keep Florida Bar membership informed and updated regarding legislation, rules and policies in connection with mediation, arbitration and other ADR processes and the responsibilities they impose on mediator and arbitrator members, and provide quality continuing legal education programs.

⚖️ Good news for Florida mediators and parties.

On October 16, the Florida Supreme Court declined to adopt proposed amendments to Rule 1.700 that would have defaulted remote mediation and arbitration to audio and video. The current rule stays in place, so parties keep the flexibility to choose the format that works best for them: in person, by communication technology, or a combination.

Party self-determination applies to process as well as substance, and this outcome protects that principle, along with access for rural, incarcerated, and unrepresented parties and those with limited bandwidth.

Happy Dispute Resolution Week! 🎉 This week, we celebrate the people who make resolution possible across Florida.

That includes the mediators and arbitrators who guide parties toward agreement every day, the attorneys who counsel clients to consider a better path, and the court staff who keep ADR programs running smoothly. It includes the members who teach CLE programs, mentor newer practitioners, and give their time to committee work. And it includes the law students and new attorneys who are choosing this field as the next chapter of their careers.

Each of them helps people move past conflict with dignity and respect. Their work often happens quietly, but its impact reaches families, businesses, and communities statewide.

To everyone in the ADR community: thank you. We are proud to celebrate you this week and every week.

Check out the official proclamation recognizing the important role alternative dispute resolution plays in our state’s justice system. Thank you to all of our members who mediate, arbitrate, and advocate for peaceful resolution every day!

Join the ADR Section Open House on 10/23/2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET. This free, virtual hour is your chance to meet the people behind the Section and get more from your membership.

We'll open with a short look at what's already available to you: discounted and free CLE, the Listserv, Book Club, The Common Ground, mixers at Florida Bar meetings, the ADR Retreat, and our free mediator and arbitrator forums. Free October Arbitration Forum. 10/13/2026, 8:00 to 9:00 AM.

The ADR Section's Arbitration Committee welcomes you to the monthly forum, held the second Tuesday of each month. Topic is: ”Motions – when to allow them and when to deny them.” These sessions were created to build a community of stronger arbitration neutrals across Florida, with fellow neutrals discussing what works, what puzzles them, and what might improve their practice.
