The 2026 Legislative Update will now be available from the comfort of your desk! Featuring Mike Redondo, an attorney and member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 118 in Miami-Dade County. First elected in 2023, Redondo was reelected in 2024 and has been selected by his House Republican colleagues to serve as Speaker of the Florida House following the 2030 elections.

Judges across the country are cautiously exploring the benefits of AI, including one who uses a “brainstorm buddy” to develop questions for oral argument, a National Center for State Courts report shows.

The March report is based on surveys of state and federal judges in 10 states and shows that early adopters were using the tech in a variety of ways – but not for “judicial decision making.”

“There was unanimous consensus among the judges that, regardless of how they are using GenAI, judges must always remain ‘the deciders’ who determine the ultimate outcome of any legal decision before them,” the report stresses.

Following an inquiry by the Special Committee on AI Tools and Resources, the Board Review Committee on Professional Ethics will consider adopting a proposed advisory opinion at the Board of Governors’ direction during a meeting to be held early December.

The proposed advisory opinion may include consideration of: 1) lawyers’ use of agentic AI tools; 2) the use of artificial intelligence tools to record, transcribe, and summarize communications; 3) guidance to clients’ regarding their use of artificial intelligence tools; and 4) updates to the guidance provided in Florida Ethics Opinion 24-1.

Registration is open for the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar’s 2026 Judge Michael G. Williamson View from the Florida Bankruptcy Bench, an interactive panel discussion featuring sitting bankruptcy judges on developments affecting business and consumer bankruptcy cases.
